Art?

Posted in Off Topic

So today I posted a lot of my customs to a local art group, for a local "art sale" I created what would be 2 series of Spiderman Figures for this sale, on top of the other hours I had put into my other legends figures.
The response I got back was about discrening from comercial made action figures. Meaning to me, that she could not judge between "store bought" and what I had made. This was meant as a compliment, but I feel like she slighted me on saying I basically " plagerized what I had made.
I asl what the small community of peers think of what we do, and why we do it.?
I don't necasarily want to make a ton of money off what I love to do, but I am running out of room. What are your thoughts on what we do as an artform?

I'm obviously biased in saying this, but in my opinion customizing takes sculptural skills, painting skills, skills of imagination and integration of many other objects into the sculptures, and can also incorporate computer drafting skills, and skills of 2d design into the box art and designs.

Engineering = artform
Sculpting = artform
Painting = artform

You put them together and it's not? Cheer up brother, we are artists of a unique kind !

100% an artform. Cusotmizing heavily takes elements of art. It's taking what we have and creating our own masterpieces. Sure it's not 100% original, if you want to get technical, but originality of a figure stems from how much work you put in it. A repaint, I consider 30-50 percent originality. When you start blend ing figure parts 10-20 percent bonus to that. And when you sculpt, I consider it 40-70 percent originality. The more of these three keys of customizing, are included, the more original in my eyes. But even the most unoriginal custom deserves recognition and pride that should be taken in that work. And that comment, nah, I'd take is as nothing but a compliment.
