Can anyone think of a practical application for sanded epoxy putty powder? in Custom Workstation by timone317
Saturday, March 30, 2019
   [Edit]
I managed to gain a small collection of epoxy putty fragments from various projects over the years and have had no way of disposing of them (I have concerns about simply tossing them in the trash). It finally reached a point where the "collection" became an unmanageable mess, so I decided to take some time to sand each fragment down into powder, and now I have a 12 oz cup of the powder. The problem is, now I have the cup of powder just sitting there, and I can't help but wonder if something can be done with it. I thought it would be worth trying to blend portions of the powder with some fresh putty (hoping to increase the mass of the putty), but this was hardly worthwhile as it made the putty become less tacky. SO, now I've come here in the...[See More]

A common trick in model building is to use powder mixed with super glue as a filler for gaps

Mix it in paint and use it for textured surfaces in your display dioramas ( like streets or concrete walls )

There's a program called Zephyr that makes 3d models from photos. You might try that out.

You can find packs of graphics on places like ArtStation, for example https://www.artstation.com/jronn/store/ ... cals-vol-1

Free stuff on places like DeviantArt probably, there are a few stock sites like that.

It's up to you to modify them as needed.
Spider-Ma'am in Custom Workstation by TomatoisJP
Monday, April 8, 2019
   [Edit]
So I apologise in advance that I'm posting this from work and I don't have direct references for what I'm talking about, but I wanted to get this posted as early as possible.

I'm currently planning out a custom for Spider-Ma'am that I've wanted to do for a long time, but was reinforced with her recent appearance in the Spider-Geddon event. The head I've long since solved, and I think the upcoming Peggy Carter figure solves my skirt issue, but the last big hurdle is her blasted Shoulders.

For those who haven't seen it, May's costume has giant poofy shoulders on it, the kind you see on some fancy dresses. I'm trying to think of how to do that, while maintaining the articulation.

My rough plan right now, depending on how Peggy is put togeth...[See More]

Check SOTA Chun Li for an example of how to do it. It's basically a rubbery sleeve that covers the shoulders.

Cover the shoulders in a little plastic wrap.
Sculpt the puffy covers with ProCreate (stays flexible when cured), but leave an opening along the bottom so you can pop it off.
Pop the shoulders off and do any clean up work you need to, like maybe hollowing them out more so the arms can still raise outward.
Priming soft plastics (Toybiz, Mattel, Hasbro capes etc) in Custom Workstation by DerRabbi

Anyone have advice priming soft plastic capes and overlays from ML or DCUC figures? Tamiya primer seems to cover most everything fine except soft goods. Even after a good scrubbing with a degreaser. Seems like the older primers used to work better on these surfaces....[See More]

Duplicolor Fabric and vinyl spray at Autozone with Vallejo Game air for paint. It's what I use on all my capes with absolutely no problem. Just make sure you let the Vallejo Paint cure for 2 days and you can bend the cape all you want.

I’ll try that paint out. Are you priming and painting with that leather paint, just using it as primer and then acyrlics on top, or using it on the soft rubbery plastics directly with no primer?

You're talking about the more flexible, rubbery plastics, best suggestion for those that I know of is the Angelus paint for leather, it remains flexible after drying so won't crack or flake, adheres well after washing and a light sanding. For capes and the like I find it best to just use the brush attached to the cap, no need to water it down, just brush it on evenly and cover all the area you intend to paint. You can paint half a cape, let it dry, then paint the other half without any problems, I've done it with pretty much all the capes I've painted and it looks fine after drying. One thing I will mention, after drying it does have a glossy finish and has an ever so slight stickiness to it, it won't come off handling it or anything, but I have found tiny specks of the paint stuck to the ...

Marvel Legends - create custom parts in ZBrush? in Custom Workstation by jjwil76
Wednesday, April 3, 2019
   [Edit]
Hello all! Has anyone heard of or seen a workflow for creating custom parts in ZBrush for 3D printing? I was thinking I could measure out my base figure's major proportions (chest, waist, arm width, etc.) with digital calipers, take reference photos and do an approximate sculpt in ZBrush using those then fit the parts I'd like to make to that and print them.
Am I making this more difficult than it needs to be? I wish there was a buck body 3D model out there for this stuff. If I come up with a good one that's useful I'll make it available....[See More]

On Imgur, you can just right click the picture and Copy Image Location. Paste that, it's the direct link. It's the same as the BBC/Forum link just without the IMG tags around it.

Marvel Legends female preventing paint rub at legs in Custom Workstation by isdbear
Wednesday, February 20, 2019
   [Edit]
Hello,

I am working on a custom Marvel Legends figure using the Dagger body. Is it necessary to separate the lower torso and grind away some of the crotch area in order to prevent paint rub at the top of the legs? Or can it be done with a little sanding and sealing the paint with Modpodge?...[See More]
