This project began as an easy kit-bash between threeA’s portable (1/12) Popbot and a Marvel Legends Doombot head. I wasn’t satisfied with how simple the job was, so I began playing around with LEDs to fit him with a light-up kryptonite feature that the character is so often depicted with. The entire mid-torso had to be resculpted and I managed to pirate a small battery housing unit from the fodder box. It takes 3 LR41 batteries to power the light-up feature and the switch is located on the lower back. I shaped an old Xevos accessory into a stylized “M” for the battery cover on his back and made it easily removable with two small screws. Painting this guy was my favorite part. He was airbrushed, washed, dry brushed, mottled, and sponge dabbed (my favorite technique) with Tamiya acrylics to achieve a worn and oxidized metal look. Enjoy.
