So I started to look at some spare parts I had lying around and tried to figure out what I could make with them. I began pouring through my guide books and then it finally hit me: Kristoff Vernard, or Dr. Doom II. I loved John Byrne's Fantastic Four run and thought Kristoff had an interesting history. I decided to go with a look that was an amalgamation of his many looks, particularly those from his earlier appearances. I've been on a real Fantastic Four kick lately with the Fox deal going through, the new Walgreen's figures especially, and even the return of the comic, too.

Head, forearms/hands: Dr. Doom (Ronan Series)
Torso: Black Knight (Cull Obsidian Series)
Arms, upper legs: Cobra/Serpent Society
Lower legs: Taskmaster (Red Skull/Red Onslaught Series)
Belt: Black Panther (classic, Wal*Mart exclusive)
Blaster: Spider-Man Noir

I Dremeled out the head to fit the modern Marvel Legends neck peg. I also Dremeled out the ankle swivels and disk joints and feet to avoid paint rub. I boiled and popped the torso open to switch the arms and used the heat to also remove the legs for painting. I heated and switched out the lower legs as well. I drilled down the forearms on the Cobra arms until they formed a peg shape for the Doom forearms/hands and was able to fit them so as to retain the ability to swivel.I also shaved down the upper part of the ab crunch to avoid paint rub there, too.

I painted the blue parts of the legs silver metallic so as to make them more accurate and to better match the rest of the parts. I painted the torso a light green. I then gave it and the limbs a dark green wash to better bring out the detail of the sculpt. I painted the back of the helmet and upper part of the shoulders black. I painted the navy blue belt black and the buckle yellow.

My Fantastic Four/Cosmic shelf has really grown this past year, and Kristoff makes a fine addition to it if I do say so myself. I don't see Hasbro making him, and he's definitely deserving of a figure.

Thanks, pal! I love finding a use for things that otherwise wouldn't have been had a purpose, especially when it leads to getting a new figure of a new character.
