I always wanted a highly detailed replica of a BATSIGNAL searchlight to go along with my custom 1:9 scale (8 inch) Police Commissioner Gordon action figure. There were one or two BATSIGNAL replicas on the market, but they were always inadequate for one reason or other... most often because of incompatible scale size. Also, I really did NOT care for the hi-tech modern Batsignal searchlight design (as seen in the Chris Nolan trilogy of Batman films. To me, it made more sense that the woefully under equipped Gotham Police Department would be using equipment that was old and outdated. I wanted my custom BATSIGNAL to be an accurate replica of a vintage WW II, army surplus, Carbon Arc Searchlight (my favorite design as featured at the end of the 1989 Tim Burton Batman film, and again most recently in The Justice League film). In the end, I managed to scratch build a pretty accurate replica of the (vintage style) BATSIGNAL (with some minor creative license applied to the design) I also scratch-built an accompanying electrical power generator trailer, AND I incorporated the legal warning (about unauthorized Batsignal use) as a weather-beaten sign post! My custom Batsignal features an ultra bright LED light array that is powered by a built-in rechargeable battery pack good for 15 hours between chargings. The activation switich for the custom Batsignal is actually built into the large Carbon Arc Control Box (mounted on the left U bracket arm). ![]() |
