One of the great things about toybiz’s lotr Figure series is that they made multiple variants and costume/scene based figures of our heroes, but basically all the costumes they wore during the events of the films with variants etc. I felt that only Thorin, Fili and Kili had a major costume change in the final battle whereas the other Dwarves wore very similar clothing with a bit of chain mail as they did in the first film with some differences here and there. I already made Thorin and then when I updated Dwalin I added the axe as again his only real change is his new axe, his other weapons are similar and his costume isn’t strikingly different. I used the same base for Fili as I did before: Eowyn Pelenor fields, with a faramir head and Eomer hair but this time with coronation Gimli gloves and Boots. I used pieces of the chain mail from Eowyn and Faramirs kilt. The rest was hand sculpted: the undershirt the other undershirt the overtop trench shirt, the buckle and belt and sleeves and detailing on his collar and gloves and on the sleeves and chain mail. I used the spear from Eowyn where the staff meets the blade as the handle in my sword then just did my usual method building up layer by layer and sharpening on plastic with miliput. Then I painted him and took some pics. I used the same detailing as with my original Fili utilising Eomer’s hair then resizing the head and using bits of Gimli and Legolas hair/beard to detail him. Happy with the result, I really enjoyed Fili’s design and as a character and you could see the genuine bond and relationship between Thorin and his nephews. Hope you like Tolkienites!
