The first Black Knight was Sir Percy of Escandia, a knight of Camelot, a pupil of Merlin.Merlin entrusted him with the mission of protecting King Richard from an imminent attack. Days before the invasion Sir Percy had to leave the kingdom since his enemies knew that he was going to protect the king so they sent him a false letter saying that his mother, who lived in a very distant village, had fallen ill.

He arrived at the village two hours after his mother died. Sir Percy remembered that he had to protect the king so he looked for an armor that painted him black, stole a black horse and took his father's black cloak and went in search of King Richard but arrived late to the castle. Mordred had already murdered the king, so he swore never to let anyone die when he was entrusted with the mission of protecting someone.
