Hi, Guys ! After I‘ve seen a picture, of that eaglemoss-chessman, years ago, I‘ve instantly put that axe-man, on my orc-to-do-list....first and foremost because of that extraordinary chest-armor. Since the ducked pose, of the figure, was important to me, I hadn’t found a suitable base-figure for a long time, but luckily that „the master“ BUFFY, the vampire-slayer-figure, crossed my way. I don’t own that chessman, only had pictures of it and can’t remember where, or if, this character appeared in the movies. If you know it, please tell me ! The chessman isn’t manufactured, or painted highly detailed, so concerning a few details, I‘m not sure, what the material should resemble (especially the shoulder areas) The left, short sleeve is obviously torn of, while the right one covers, the whole arm. The right and left forearm-guards seem to be different as well. Recipe : Very intensive use of the dremel, till the whole figure had the shape of being undressed. Jacket; trousers; high boots ...all grinded down. I’ve sculpted nose; cheeks and hair. I‘ve cut off the front third of the feet; inserted hot needles with ball-heads, into the stubs, as foundation and resculpted the shoes. Made a template of paper for the body-armor and cut it out, as one piece, from a plastic-packaging. Abraded it’s whole surface and bent in shape. Glued in the two triangular segments and reinforced it with sculpy (like welding seams) from underneath. A thin layer of pro create all over it. Then imprinted the rear-cloth of an Uruk Hai, to add some structure to it. Shin guards: same procedure. I wanted to try something new on this figure, so I added three additional points of articulation : Hip-rotation and rotation at both bizeps. For that, I‘ve cut the figure in half and cut off the arms as well. Countersunk 2mm deep slots, linto all six pieces, drilled holes into the center; placed nails and afterwards 1,5mm thick „ring“-magnets into it. Then I‘ve covered the cut surfaces with 0,5mm rubber. Perfect stability and friction, since the nails have the same diameter as the holes of the magnet‘s, plus the rubber. Faux-fur from a monchichi Shield : used the plastic base-plate of a ceiling-hook, which hook was broken off. Dremeled off some material from the flipside and the semicircle-segment. Evened the flipside with sculpy, carved the wood grain in the dryed sculpy. Sculpted the topside and imprinted two plastic-strips (embossed the rivets from the flipside) into the semi-dryed sculpy. Once again : imprinted the Uruk-cloth. Faux-leather for the straps. Axe: shortened the weapon of a „Vaako“ and left two stubs of it’s blades, as foundation to sculpt over it. Filed the grooves into the handle. I‘ve took the forearms of Eomer, hollowed em out; cut it into sengments to get the right position and distance between the straps and resculpted all gaps. Covered the right upper arm with fabric of an old sock. Cut and attached a few layers of faux-leather for the sleeves at the shoulders. Tried to get the overlapping layers as authentic, as possible. Modified Loin-and rear-cloth of an Isengard orc-warrior, with added real leather. Bulked up the bare hands with some sculpy and layers, of liquid green stuff, since the guy wears gloves. Citadel colors : Skin-tone : Celestra grey Drakenhof nightshade Waagh! flesh Hoeth blue Athonien camoshade Hair : Steel legion drab Mephisto red Ryza rust Metal-Parts: Imperial primer Lead belcher Typhus corrosion Ryza rust Shield: Dryad bark Gehenna‘s gold Nihilaxh oxide Liquid green stuff Whyte scar (eyes) Thanks for watching ! Actually, the most difficult thing was, to mix the skin-tone, since it seems to vary, on those original chessmen. Some are painted grey-blue-ish, some look sheer green and on the photograph, of the original charakter it looks like a pale white skin-tone, with greenish shading. So now he has more colors on his face, than pennywise.
Kind regards !
Take care !
All the best !
