With the DC universe having put the new 52 saga to an end, the original Superman returns, but his costume must reflex the modern times. This is a custom that I'm sure will be a popular one to do. The Advent of Action comics 1000 is upon us and to mark the occasion, DC has been gradually bringing Superman back to his roots through the changes in his costume. Most notably, his trunks are making a comeback, which is off putting to me since many fans and myself had already accepted their absence. I loved the suit that Clark wore once he and his New 52 counterpart combined into one being, as it was a sensible compromise between the two. I was even more excited when the DC collectibles figure of it was announced. Alas, that figure was cancelled and in it's place we got Superman back in his trunks again. I wasn't having it, so I set out to make my Superman for the modern era. I started with DCUC Super Friends Supes for the body color, gave him a better painted head and replaced his belt with the one from Earth-23 Superman. I painted over the trunks and attached the cape from DC Direct Future Superman. Not wholly accurate, but I'm very satisfied with the end result. Now I have the supes that should've been in comics for years to come. Let me know if you agree or tell me why the classic suit should stay. Personally I prefer things to move forward. And when flashbacks become necessary, you can use a classic suit to show continuity. Batman does this in a lot of stories. ![]() |
