I've been wanting a classic comic Kingpin in my collection for a while so I decided wth I might as well try to make it myself. I'm all for using what I have on hand and I just happened to have bought a few SDCC Sandman figures. I really like the size and the torso on these figures. The final figure towers over average 6 inch figures while not being TOO HUGE. I started out by shaving Sandman's hair. First with an exacto knife, then with a Dremel then smoothing it down with some sand paper. Next I used Aves Apoxie sculpt to add some weight to his face. The torso took me a while to figure out as I wanted to keep as much articulation as possible. I ended up cutting a plastic Easter egg in half which fit perfectly. It gave it a nice round stomach but was still plenty sturdy, and really reduced the weight of the final figure since I didn't have to build it up with apoxie. Unfortunately, he lost his ab crunch, but he still has the torso swivel, and can get into a sitting and running poses. I then sculpted over the arms as well as the easter egg stomach, adding wrinkles, buttons, and details. The jacket was another tough thing to figure out. I debated going full on sculpt but I wanted the freedom to move so I made the jacket out of white foamie. Recipe Sandman Figure Aves Apoxie Sculpt ![]() |
