Custom #4 a.k.a. the most I've stressed about an action figure so far. The Rocketeer is probably my all time favourite movie and while I liked the Funko action figure I thought I should make it a bit more personal. But since it's such an important character and story for me I was really sweating over it to get it right and while I know it's not perfect I think this is the best I could do at this moment and overall I'm happy how it turned out. So here is how it went down: First I've hollowed out the helmet with a dremel, because it was a solid plastic piece, and drilled out they eye holes too. Then painted the whole thing and rebuilt some parts with miliput I've managed to damage. I've used small pieces of green see through plastic for the eye lenses from a water bottle to make it look more like the original comicbook version. After that I've sanded down (and repainted where it was needed) the Gotham Select Zsasz figure, including the head which had to go through a lot of damage for the helmet to fit since the Funko and the Gotham figures are not exactly the same size but I think it worked fine. Decided to use the movie jetpack since I don't think at this point I could do justice to the comicbook version but spiced it up a bit with some flame effects I got from the flamethrower of the Neca videogame Robocop figure. Then sewn the trousers and the leather jacket, both were a bit harder than expected since the fabric for the trousers is not very stretchy and the collar on the jacket is just a nightmare in this size (especially since I had to cut it down after sewing it on because I'm blind and overestimated the size). The jacket colour is not exactly what it should be but this was the second batch of faux leather I've ordered and it looks close enough so I've decided not to waste more money and all in all I think it looks neat. The first batch of leather was used for the harness so at least it wasn't a complete waste. The front of the jacket is glued on and the buttons are cut down nailheads pushed through and then glued to the fabric. They are not really in scale but finding the buttons for this size would have led to a nervous breakdown on my part (or when I try to apply them). To finish it off I've glued on various leather pieces like the boots, jacket straps and the chin strap under the helmet. So that's it, finally I can chill and move on to my next figure, which is more than likely gonna be a redesigned Shadow "commissioned" by a friend. Hope you guys like it! ![]() |
