I love the Arkham Asylum and City games, but wasn't too happy with the lack of articulation of the DC Direct/Collectibles figures (the DC Collectibles Arkham Series 4 Batman figure has better articulation, but I don't like the proportions and the way they did the joints). Mattel's Batman Legacy Arkham City Batman figure has decent articulation and proportions, and is closer to the in-game model, but has a softer sculpt and inferior paint (eg. a game-inaccurate light gray color, hardly any shading, and looks very plasticky and toy-like). Also, the ears were too thick and toy-like. I had to improve the figure. So, inspired by the work of other customizers on Figurerealm, I did a dark wash and some paint touch-ups. It helped bring out the details, eg. the lines on the face, which were otherwise lost because of the basic factory paintjob. I also tried to make it look like Batman's face is full of dirt and stubble. Doing the face was actually harder and took a lot longer than the rest of the body, as the sculpt of the mouth and frown lines was so soft/shallow. I thinned the ears using sandpaper. I replaced the plastic cape. I used the lower part of the cowl from the the Mattel Multiverse Justice League Exclusive Batman and made a custom cloth cape. Finally, I carved out the plastic just below the armpits so that Batman's arms could rest along his sides like any decent figure should. I'm very happy with the figure now. It went from being the least favorite Batman figure in my collection to my favorite. ![]() |
