Update on Oin time, Sewed a cloak, made the metal broaches out of miliput. Added a dagger made from Eowyn's sword handle and rest scratch made including the sheath. I also made his walking battle stick out of a skewer and mili again. Fully finished him with removable accesories! I took an immediate close family picture (so Balin etc isn't immediate family) (Original decription below): And that's all 13 Dwarves. Well 12 if you're not including Thorin. I will be following up with some more photos and I know you're all dying to see the company together as I am also! I finished two years earlier than I thought I'd get round to doing these and surprised I got them done this quickly as I said I thought I'd finish dead last as I take ages to do these usually. I will as usual be adding some photos later on today after work haha, but for now here's Oin the eldest of the group and brother to Gloin. He's the Healer so naturally I included his medical bag and he has with his old age poorer hearing so carries a hearing Trumpet which often leads to some comical misunderstandings. I used Eowyn once again (poor girl) as the base body, with Orc armour Frodo lower arms and Gimli legs with Eowyns lower heels from her boots added. Then I used Aragorns coat for an under robe then Haldirs cloak for the skirt tunic part. Gandalf the White return of the king Figure the one with the angry expression was used and I used the hobbit Gandalf hair a tiny bit at the back of the head and a little bit of the front was the two towers Gandalf hair just for structural base and integrity. Then I got to work sculpting the clothing stupidly highly detailed compared to the one the bridge direct was going to release. I focused on pictures from behind the scenes, in film and the weta model but mainly in film of course as those wets models have inaccuracies notably the paintjob. The nose eyebrows mouth moustache beard and details and hair and forehead were all sculpted layer by layer and I think the likeness has come out well. Then I sculpted the two layers of fur on his boots separated by a belt. The medicine bag is just a Uruk crossbow quiver made much smaller to a U shape then with Aragorns kilt stuck to the front and Pippin Gondor armour for the back and closing flap. Then I added details like vials from Altair, bottles from the 3.75" Bilbo and a buckle to fasten the bag shut. I used Merrys shield strap for the strap. The Trumpet was made from plastic folded then cut into the right shape with Boromirs horn mouth piece and gandalfs bag strap for the rounded bit then miliput to get rid of gaps and a thread tied through to hold it. It fits nicely into his ear. Not sure what else there is to say. Like I said more photos to follow and the company as a whole soonish so look out for that. Special Thanks goes to my fellow Tolkien fans you know who you are I don't want to list in case I accidentally miss one haha pretty much if you've posted in the last two years I've been here and commented on my stuff and I've done the same lol. You guys and girls are awesome and make brilliant stuff that is always great to see! So as of 14.35 GMT I am done with the Dwarves! Phew but the journey does not end here as updates will follow and a group shot! Please wait... |

Well, I am like 95% done with Dori, 95% done with Dwalin, 85% done with Bofur, 75% done with Bifur and like 10% done with Oin. I just ran into another lack of time... too many things going on! I'm hoping to finish these dwarves before 2018, but Oin might hold me back. I also have a 97% done Regal Armor Thorin that I need to get done... so many projects!
Can't wait to see your group photos and all these dwarves together in various dioramas. You've done something pretty big here! Congrats again and well-played!!
I know what you mean often I have work a lot or studying to do and I'm just thinking gosh I wish I just worked on Tolkien sculptures all day. Oin's clothes were lengthy to get right but his beard and hair was the hardest part due to the photos online not being th highest quality or showing enough meaning I had to use the behind the scenes, the movies, the bridge directs work and weta statues for reference to get it to a point I was happy with. That nose also took a fair bit of shaping
Once again : CONGRATS on finishing such a challenging custom-project in such short amount of time.
