This is a custom figure a girl asked me to make for her of the character Madame Razz from the classic She-Ra cartoon series. However she wanted me to make her figure fit in with the look of her other vintage She-Ra figures from the 80’s. A lot of the vintage She-Ra figures did not look exactly like their cartoon characters. Quite a lot of them even had different coloured costumes etc. so I decided to go down this rout with this POP style Madame Razz. In the cartoon Madame Razz wore a red & dark purple outfit, but I didn’t feel the colour scheme of her outfit would tie in well with the overall look of the other vintage POP figures colours. I did a little research & found there was a comic book released in the 80’s titled ‘The Third Sword’. In this story Madame Razz wore a Pink & Purple outfit. I thought this would be a perfect colour pallet for my figure. To Make her I used a MOTUC Madame Razz figure as a base. Height wise, she is not as small in comparison to the other female characters as Razz was in the cartoon. However she is still slightly smaller than the other vintage POP figures. Plus when you look at other small characters like Kowl & Loo Kee, their vintage figures were also scaled up a little in height in comparison to their cartoon versions. So taking this into account the MOTUC Madame Razz figure is the ideal height. To start I cut off her plastic hair & the bottom section of her shirt that goes around her hips. This was done with a sharp craft knife. I then filled in the articulation points at her elbows, knees & ankles using a product called ‘Fixit Sculpt’. This was to give her the same number of articulation points as the vintage figures & help her tie in with their overall look. I also removed her hands & replaced them with the hands from a vintage Double Trouble figure. Again this helped her fit in better with the vintage look as her original hands looked a little too large. Next I drilled a hole in the little top section of her hat. This is so I could place some doll hair in that section at a later stage. I also drilled out 2 little holes were her buttons were. This is were I will place 2 little pink craft jewels in a later stage. A lot of the vintage POP figures had little Jewels on their chests so I thought this would be a nice element to include in my Razz figure. Once all the Sculpted sections had set I then repainted the figure using Humbrol enamel paints. To make her cape I used some metallic purple fabric similar to that used for the vintage Bubble Power She-Ra & Shower Power Catra figures. Her cape is attached with some pink elastic to match her outfit. All of the vintage figures had fabric skirts so to bring this element across to my Madam Razz figure I replaced the bottom plastic shirt section (I previously cut off) with a little fabric skirt/belt. To make this I got some self adhesive purple foil which I stuck onto some faux leather fabric. I then cut it into a belt shape to fit around Razz’s waist. I also had some copper holographic tape which I used to make a little buckle shape at the front of her belt. I then got some pink fabric taken from an old Barbie dress which I stitched to the belt which made a little skirt for Razz. I finished it off by stitching 2 popper buttons to the back of the belt. The final step was to give My Razz some rooted hair. As the MOTUC figure did not come with rooted hair I had to cut out a section of faux leather to fit along the bottom of Madam Razz’s hat. I then coated the leather with a layer of PVA glue. Once the glue had set I started rooting white doll hair though the leather (the same way you would do to a rubber doll head) When I had finished rooting I then glued the rooted leather section to the bottom of Razz’s hat. Next I got another length of white doll hair which I folded in half & tied a knot in the middle, I then placed some glue into the hole I had previously drilled into the top section of her hat & placed the knot into the hole. Once all her hair was attached I then curled & styled it using the boiling water method. I styled her hair a lot longer & bigger than the cartoon character, again this was to help her fit in with the look of the other vintage figures. ![]() |
