I used 3 Base figures to make this vintage POP style Teela. They were Teela, Castaspella & She-Ra.

I started off by pulling the head off the Teela figure.

Next I cut off the neck joint of the Castaspella figure using a hacksaw. I sanded the sawn off edge so as it was very thin & then superglued it to the top part of the Teela figures neck. This meant that the Castaspella head could be attached when attached to the Teela figures body.

The next step was sawing Teela’s torso just below the bottom of her belt line. This is because I wanted to keep her ‘power punch’ action.

I then got the She-Ra figure & cut her lower body off so I could keep her lower torso & legs. I used She-Ra’s legs because I really like the style of that figures boots plus I hated the leg joints on the vintage Teela figure.

Next I had to sand down the sawn off areas of Teela’s upper body & She-Ra’s lower body so as they matched in size to make a nice clean joint. Sanding these sections also helped make a stronger bond when I attached the 2 bodies together using superglue.

At this point I then cut off Teela’s hands & replaced them with She-Ra’s as I wanted to continue with the overall vintage pop look for my Teela custom.

The next step was sculpting the fur parts on her boots which I did using ‘fixit sculpt’.

Another thing I wanted my custom Teela to have was the iconic jewel on her chest which a lot of the other POP girls have. To do this I drilled a small hole in the center of her chest. I was quite nervous about doing this part so I had 3 trial goes on an other figure which worked perfectly each time. Of course when it came to drilling my actual Teela, the drill went too far & went right through into her body. Luckily it did not go all the way to her back. I filled the hole in with fixit sculpt & then attached the jewel to it. Luckily this helped fix a potential disaster.

After completing the construction stage of her body I then started working on her head. I chose to use Castaspella’s head as she had the perfect hair colour & I wanted my Teela custom to have rooted hair (again to help give her a nice POP feel)
I styled her hair in a high ponytail so as it would resemble her classic Filmation cartoon look but also fit in with the long hair look of the other POP figures.

I then gave her gold eye shadow to match the gold parts of her outfit & made her lips slightly paler. I did this with humbrol enamel paints.

To make her tiara I got my vintage Teela’s head & carefully cut the tiara off using a sharp craft knife. I then sanded down any rough edges. The sides of the tiara were a little too short which meant they did not reach down to her ears so I had an old harness belonging to a Grizzlor figure which I cut 2 small sections off which I attached to each side of the tiara. I then painted the tiara gold using humbrol enamels & attached it to her head with a small amount of superglue on each of her ears. This meant I did not get glue all over her hair.

Once her head was complete I then painted her body using Humbrol enamels, the most difficult part was matching the skin tones as the vintage Teela’s skin was a lot darker that that of the Castaspella & she-Ra parts.

I decided to paint her boots, staff & shield a nice copper colour instead of brown as I thought it would give the finished figure a much richer look plus the copper looked really well next to her hair colour.

Instead of using the vintage Teela shield I decided to go with the POP shield, again just to help give her the same overall look as the other POP girls.

The final part was making her skirt. To do this I cut out a template for the belt section using Castaspellas skirt. I then changed the shape of the belt to resemble a simplified version of the tear drop section of Teela’s original outfit. I then got some self adhesive gold foil & attached it to a piece of fake leather. I used my template to cut out the belt section in the foil & leather. Next I cut out a smaller tear drop shape in holographic copper tape & attached it to the front section of her belt. To make the skirt part I got white organza ribbon & hand stitched it to the bottom part of her belt. The skirt fastens at the back with 2 popper buttons which were taken from a Castaspella skirt.

The completed figures points of articulation are her head, arms, legs & she also has her ‘power punch’ action.

Teela (Princess of Power style)
This is a figure I made of Teela as i Imagined she may have looked if she had ever been released as a vintage Princess of Power figure back in the 80's.
