Captain Metal has a REALLY interesting origin story that spans THREE comic book series, I'll try to sum it up. Eggman, totally obsessed with defeating Sonic once and for all, created a new upgrade for Metal Sonic; an engine that would use chaos energy to break through dimensional barriers so he could pursue Sonic no matter where he went, even other zones. Upon activation this new Metal immediately chased Sonic to Moebius (formerly known as anti-mobius, home of Scourge and the anti-freedom fighters) where all of the major hedgehog characters had gathered for the "Hedgehog Havoc" event (this included not only Sonic and Scourge but also Amy, Shadow, Silver, Rob-O the Hedge, Metal himself, and even Amy's evil alternate Rosy the Rascal.) Sonic was able to convince Metal Sonic to fight with them against Scourge temporarily but with his back against the wall he used Anarchy Beryl to achieve his own super form. Deciding that he couldn't fight Superscourge Metal decided to go back to attacking Sonic. Shadow jumped in to defend Sonic, and using the power of Metal's new engine was able to force him to chaos control into yet another Zone, the world of the Sonic X comic... The story continued in the last issue of Sonic X, where Metal ran away from Shadow and decided to join up with THAT universe's Eggman (terrifying poor Decoe and Bocoe.) After spending some time with Chris and Sonic's other friends they confronted Eggman one more time and he used the chaos control trick again, launching the first issue of Sonic Universe... In the first issue of Sonic Universe Shadow found himself landing in Blaze the Cat's world, where there is no Eggman so Metal Sonic was just causing random mayhem, until Blaze and Shadow worked together to supposedly destroy him. Of course Metal is pretty tenacious, he survived, pulled himself together, and sought compatible technology to repair himself with, finding Captain Whisker and the other Robot Pirates. Despite his heavy damage Metal was able to defeat the leader of the robot pirates and used his components to rebuild himself into the robot I present to you now, Captain Metal. Phew...that was a long one, and I haven't even got to how I made the toy yet! A while ago a friend of mine sent me a box full of Sonic figures and parts I could use to make customs, including an old Silver Sonic custom that he made from Jazwares' 3-inch Metal Sonic that was HEAVILY damaged (ha, how appropriate.) Using apoxie sculpt, a spare leg from a Knuckles figure, some fabric for the cape, a 3D pen for the shoulder tassels, and card stock for the brim of his 2 cornered hat, I was able to turn that disheveled old figure into this masterpiece. You gotta love this guy's design, he has a peg leg AND his right arm is a blunderbuss with a cutlass for a bayonet! Hmm...what is it with destroyed Metal Sonic's coming back with a blaster for an arm? ![]() |
