Poor Charlie never got a break in the DCU: first he started out as a Hawkman fan that got beamed by a ray that Dr. Destiny used to try to confuse the JLA; but he failed and Charlie got to keep the awful costume. After Crisis, he got rebooted into a self-interested hero ala Booster Gold: trying to make money out of his superhero gig. The a Wildebeest killed him (but he survived!!
