During one of his heists, petty thief and sailor Abel Tarrant was exposed to chemicals which he found he could use to conjure animated objects. To make sure these chemicals were always readily available, Tarrant tattooed himself with them so that he could use the objects in his crimes. Why he didn't just tattoo bags of money or a stretched limo is anyone's guess, but hey, it was the silver age and Abel didn't seem like the sharpest needle in the tattoo kit. Eventually, Abel decided to go shirtless as a member of the Injustice Gang, where he was often defeated by the Justice League of America. Later on he seemingly reformed to become a tattoo artist, but later appeared as a member of the Secret Society of Supervillains and the Suicide Squad. I'd love to say this guy was a keeper, but sadly he was a commissioned figure. To make him I started out with a DCUC Spectre body for the sexy booties. I swapped out the arms for Samurai arms, and then sculpted solid arm bands atop the ones he already had. The cape was made using the bottom of a Doctor Mid-Nite cape and the collar from an Alan Scott GL cape glued and sculpted together. The head was a repainted DCUC Captain Atom head. The tattoos themselves are a combination of hand-painted and waterslide decals that were purchased in sheets off eBay. In total he has 28 tattoos, 7 of which were painted like the flaming pinwheel on his right arm which he often used in the comics because what better weapon does one need besides a flaming pinwheel? Some of the waterslide decals represent tattoos he also often had like the anchor and naval boat on his right forearm, while others were just cool decals that looked like something Abel may've weaponized. The nice about the character was that many of his tattoos often changed over time depending upon the arsenal he needed, so this allowed for some leeway in tattoo choice. Heck, he only appeared caped and shirtless in 3 or 4 Justice League of America issues but that was also the look he had in Who's Who in the DC Universe. He took a lot of time, mostly due to some trial and error with the waterslide decals and the time it took to properly place them on, but I think he makes for a good representation of the character. Hopefully you do to. Alright, time's up. Machines down. No more ink. Thanks for looking! ![]() |
