Okay, here comes the fifth figure in my series of conjectural characters based upon the premise that what if another Golden Age hero other than Superman was given a teenage superhero career? So, using that idea as my basis, I came up with Rover the Wonder Dog. This one isn't so much a what if another Golden Age hero had a teenage superhero career, so much as it is a what if DC had never sued Fox Publications over Wonder Man. Hypothetically, Victor Fox and Will Eisner would have continued publishing Wonder Man adventures, giving him parallels to everything that Superman had or would eventually have had...he would probably have had parallels to Luthor, Ultra-Humanite, the Prankster, Mister Mxyztplk/Mxyzptlk, and Superboy. Using that last part as my basis, I figured that if Wonder Man would have had his own teenaged superhero career as "Wonder Boy", then it is theoretically possible that he had his own canine crime-fighting partner, and thus was born the idea of Rover the Wonder Dog.
To do this figure, I took a DC Direct Silver Age Krypto the Superdog from the Silver Age Superboy and Supergirl box set and used the boil and pop method to completely disassemble him. Next, I used my Exacto knife to clip the cape off the collar and then used my Dremel to sand the excess of the cape off and leave just the dog collar. Next, I did a full repaint on the collar with Testors Model Masters Shiny Gold. With the collar now drying, I set about a full body repaint of the body, legs, and head in Testors Model Masters Dark Gray. Once the body had fully dried, I gave each piece of the body (except for the head) two coats of Flat Clear. Next, when the Flat Clear was finally dry, I glued the collar back in place around the figure's neck. Once the glue had dried, I mixed up a small batch of Green Stuff that I applied around his eyes to create a mask (yes, I know, it looks ridiculous for a dog to be wearing a mask, but seeing as how Wonder Man did not have a cape, the only thing I could do to make him look similar to his master was create a mask). When the Green Stuff had set, I trimmed and sanded it to proper shape, and followed that with two coats of Testors Model Masters Insignia Red. When the paint had dried, I again used the boil and pop method to reattach the Krypto head and legs to the body. With the body now fully reassembled, I gave the head two coats of Flat Clear, and TA-DA...Rover the Wonder Dog, canine crime-fighting partner of Wonder Boy!!!
Please let me know what you guys think of him, and as always, comments are appreciated.
