So there I am in Quebec city a few weeks back for the 400th anniversary (it was a great time) and a friend of mine sees a movie memorabilia store and demands we stop because he saw my eyes light up. Within I found a personal holy grail. Many moons ago, a company called Horizon made these great poseable vinyl models, they had marvel and D.C. characters, classic movie monsters...and Robocop. I had Robocop, and trashed it when it melted in storage. I had always wanted another, but they were overpriced online and so I suffered in silence until that moment, and it was in the box and dirt cheap! Anyhoo, I got officer Murphy back to Maine, and cut the armor up. I then used a marvel studios wolverine body, removed the sculpted chest and sanded down the arms and legs before putting it in a Lycra suit and using it as a skeleton. I cut the visor out from the helmet and inserted a smoked piece of plastic from a shaving cream cover to give him an actual visor instead of a painted on one. The armor was popped on after heating it with a blow dryer, and than I made two alternate hands (it came with the pistol sculpted in the right hand)one a standard and one with the downloading spike. The biggest challenge was the legs, as they came molded in place. I carefully cut off the feet and sanded around the cut area. I then mounted the feet over the shoe/feet attached to the wolverine figure to give them articulation. I then drilled holes in the back of the ankles so the pistons would work when he was posed. I love this guy, and he wound up just as cool as I had hoped! Please wait... |
