So, seeing how DC never did a story back in the Silver Age featuring an evil Crime Syndicate type team who were counterparts to the JSA, I decided to continue that with an equivalent of Hourman that I have dubbed Hourglass. I have theorized that his secret identity is Regis "Tick-Tock" Tyler, a criminal scientist and pharmaceutical chemist, and he is a member of a team called the Crime Assembly of America. The figure was a fairly simple piece to do. I took a DC Universe Classics Hourman and used the boil and pop method to remove the arms and lower legs. Next, I used my razor knife to crack open the T crotch and remove the belt. Next, I took the arms from a DC Universe Classics Doctor Mid-Nite and repainted the gloves with Testors Model Masters Insignia Yellow. While the gloves were drying, I took the lower legs from the Hourman, and, using the boil and pop method, removed the feet. With the feet now detached, I took the lower legs from a DC Universe Classics Battle for Earth 3 boxset Johnny Quick and, after using the boil and pop method to replace the Johnny Quick feet with the Hourman feet. With the lower legs now reassembled, I took some brush and roller cleaner to strip away the red paint. After washing the lower legs, I commenced a full repaint of the boots in Testors Model Masters Flat Black and Testors Model Masters Insignia Yellow for the knees and exposed portion of the calves (this part was done to make the Johnny Quick leggings more closely match those of the Hourman). When the paint dried, I again used the boil and pop method to attach the lower legs to the Hourman legs. Afterwards, I gave the lower legs two generous coating of Flat Clear. While the lower legs dried, I set about work on a new belt. To differentiate Hourglass from Hourman a bit, I used the belt from a DC Universe Classics Eclipso, which I stripped the paint off of with my brush and roller cleaner and repainted with Testors Model Masters Guards Red, followed by two generous coats of Flat Clear. While the belt dried, I attached the painted Doctor Mid-Nite arms to the Hourman upper torso, and gave the gloves two generous coats of Flat Clear. Finally, I took some Testors Modeling cement and put the T crotch back together with the new belt and slightly modified upper torso, and TA-DA...Hourglass, evil parallel universe counterpart of the Earth-2 Hourman and member of the Crime Assembly of America!!! Please let me know what you guys think of him, and as always, comments are appreciated. ![]() |
