During my daily ruminating of all the terrible choices I've made in life, I got a package in the mail with the new SWB Sabine Wren fig. Who needs friends or housing when you have little plastic characters! Sabine includes a matching pair of Westar-35s, which is cool...but her blasters aren't supposed to match. They're also not supposed to be an ugly streaky metal grey color. Going by Star Wars Rebels reference pictures, Sabine's blasters have completely different panels from each other. The toy sculptor made only the blue model (most likely because Hasbro didn't want to pay for another mold), so we get a pair of those. The blaster is about 95% accurate, the panel running under the barrel needed to protrude like 1 more millimeter, but it looks fine. ========================== •To prep for repainting, I gingerly sanded away the silver and mold lines and straightened the barrel. There were some edges that were "soft", but I made them look sharper with painting. The orange blaster needed to have details carved off and panels resculpted. •Quick spray of black VHT to get a solid dark color. After that came some loose planning on how to paint it so it looks as show-accurate as possible, compensating for the short panel mentioned before. •I custom mixed the colors on the fly, it's easier to do with small stuff like this. Made a light and dark blueish gray, an off-white, a seagreen, orange and the light blue bits. Then I just went at it very carefully. •A few coats of varnish to protect the paint and they're done. And yes, it's as hard to do as it looks, a lot of the areas are less than a millimeter wide. With some patience I managed to finish in about an hour per blaster. ![]() |

I just finished the orange blaster. Had to resculpt some parts and pick details to keep, but it turned out okay. I'll take pics of both blasters once I varnish them.
