Admittedly, I don't recognize any of the popular personalities in the action figure and customizing community. Glenn seems to be a favorite son though, so I figured it was time to rear my ugly head with a contest entry. Spandex costumes on action figures make my eyes chafe. Where are the wrinkles and folds and the disjointed cohesion only imperfect asymmetry can achieve? That's a fancy way of saying I like pants. And you know what, Scarlet Spider likes pants too. I wanted to update SS's look; using the sweater-vest as a jumping-off point, I went with an urban/rock climber look. Trust me, it makes sense, I've sold enough gear to chic pretty-boys to know it's a real thing. You'd think they were going to a Kim Possible convention...which is actually pretty cool and makes me jealous I can't go buhuhu Sculpted the pants, gloves, and shoes. Didn't have to grind anything down beforehand, the figure is so scrawny that it looks fine even after the moderate bulking. Based the pants on some old rock climbing pants I had. They're made of a thin material with some stretch so I clustered the wrinkles and made them thinner than if they were in denim. Also added cargo pockets to replace the ankle pouches. Shoes are a mix of designs, just wanted them to give the impression of rock climbing shoes. The black rubber parts are smooth and flat black while the red areas are winkled like fabric. Gloves are based on crack gloves. Basically they're a patch of grippy rubber that rests on the back of the hand, so you can jam it into cracks and use your fist as an anchor point. The pads are flat black, but eventually you'll find that just touching something that's flat black will make it greasy and change it back to satin or gloss. And to wrap up, what did I learn from Glen? In 2009 he said he would pick the pre-Legends figures over Marvel Legends anyday. Fast forward 7 years, and over 400 submitted customs!, and it seems like he really dug MLs. People change. The things and people we love too soon fade away, but through the grief, appreciate the lessons left in their gentle wake, and accept the marvelous unknown that comes for us all. ![]() |
