The Event Horizon is one of my favourite movies. I always wanted to have a model of this awesome ship, but there was no kit released. So after some experience of customizing for a few years I decided to face the biggest challenge yet: to built the Deep Space Research Vessel Event Horizon. I used the pictures of the studio model and custom made pictures throughout the web. I made the pattern for the pieces and cut them out of plastic and cardboard. As always I used thing you can easily find at home or buy: For the head I used the big box / container for Tic Tac mints and a bottle cap from mineral water bottle. For the neck I used 5 knitting needles. The wings are made of cardboard and plastic. For the hull I used a small plastic box and for the demonic warp drive I used a spherical Christmas ornament made of the polystyren foam. For the antennas I used the tooth from a tooth hair comb. The texture is partially printed on paper and glued on the plastic / cardboard body and partially made of another layer of thick paper, especially on the head and warp drive sphere. I used the great picture by unusualsuspex found on deviantart for the textures. You can see the construction in the last picture. As a base colour I used the dark grey matt 74 by Revell. The ship is 62,5 cm long (25" long). Because it doesn´t weight much you can hold it by the neck. This is the reason why there are no antennas in the middle of the neck, where the Rescue Ship Lewis & Clark landed in the movie. And there are three satellites on the main hull. ![]() |
