My wife and I recently had a baby (hold for applause) and so my toy budget is a little tight right now. That's actually not true, I'm just spending most of my money on baby toys instead of MulliganMG toys. Either way, I wanted to keep on keeping on with my favorite hobby and looked in the "left overs" box to see what I had. I found a bunch of headless, armless, bootless figures and after doing some inventory decided I had enough to make my own original team of heroes. Just as I got out my sketch book to start drawing up original costumes and designs I saw ManyMack Creationz rendition of the Power Rangers from a few months ago and shifted gears. What you see before you is a project I'm quite proud of. It's an ode to two franchises I love (Power Rangers and Marvel Legends) while still retaining the originality I was initially going for. Behold! The Mighty Morphin' Marvel Legends. Red, Blue and Black are all bucky-cap bodies (Blue is actually Hawkeye and Red is Baltroc) while Yellow is Hellcat and Pink is White Tiger. For Pink's skirt I used scraps from shades we bought for a window (which were white so they can be painted any color and make pretty great soft goods for figures of this scale as long as it's nothing too complicated) and everyone's gloves are made from ribbon. Now, we all know the Rangers wear dinosaur themed helmets. Well I wasn't able to find anyone making heads in this scale (and the goal of the project was to work with what I already had) and I am no where near skilled enough to sculpt them on my own, so I worked with what I had. To keep the individuality of the helmets themselves, I sketched out designs inspired by their zords. Two fangs for Yellow, a trident for Blue, a shield/trunk for Black and an open mouth for Red. Pink has a very unique helmet already so I kept her design as close as possible. Finally (and then I'll shut up) the weapons. The Odin wave blessed us with a ton of great 6 inch scale weapons and I couldn't wait to use them for this project. Red's sword is just a repaint of the sword that came with Thor. Blue's lance is a mashup of magnetic darts from a game I don't play anymore and Odin's tridents. Black's Ax is the ax head from Scarlet Witch (or maybe Captain Marvel) super glued to the high-tech tommy gun that came with Chameleon. Yellow's daggers are kunai from a Ninja Turtle and Pink's bow is just a repaint of Hawkeye's. I realized too late into the project that I could have added the ability to connect them into the Howling Cannon with just a few well places magnets... but it's fine. I doubt I would have posed them that way anyway. Anyway, there you have it. I hope you enjoy and I hope I inspire someone else to create their own re-imaging of a beloved childhood property. Ninja Turtle Pokemon perhaps? Only time will tell. ![]() |
