The nameless space marine from the landmark 1993 PC game DOOM. With the original DOOM being one of my favorite games of all time, I made and submitted one custom of the marine previously, a small clay figurine. However I felt that a more articulated medium would better suit the character, so here we are. Several different mediums went into the making of this figure. From previous my previous experiences with the figurine, I learned that sculpting the Doomguy's helmet is very difficult; there are a lot of flat, symmetrical surfaces sharp angles. Thus, I decided to 3D print the helmet from a model created by Steam user Half-Dead. After this, I took the second interchangeable head from the original figure and carved it down to the soft plastic surrounding the socket that joined it to the neck. I then proceeded to make a hole in the 3D print large enough for the socket to fit inside, and fastened it with epoxy. The Doomguy's chest armor, however, is much simpler in design than his helmet. I was able to effectively sculpt the armor directly onto the base figure using Apoxie Sculpt. While I initially thought that the standard combat boots of the base figure would be sufficient, I later decided to make them knee-high and basically featureless, in accord with the original character design. This (alongside the cuffs for the marine's gloves) was done with Apoxie Sculpt. The marine's sleeves are made from small strips of painter's tape. I had one hell of a scare with the paint job; due through misguided notion, I thought that enamel paints would adhere better to the plastic than acrylics. However, while waiting on the second coat of green enamel paint to dry, I came across a webpage talking about why to NEVER use enamel paints on figures made with soft plastic... such as the one I was using. At first I thought that I had permanently ruined the figure, but was relieved to learn that enamel paint can be effectively removed using mineral spirits. After starting over with a clean slate, I painted the figure in acrylics with few, if any issues, and sealed it with Testor's Dullcote. ![]() |

Well done but could you make a grey version as in the 2nd player for coop?
I would give you a direct link, but Figure Realm does not allow links in the user comments. The specific file name is "Doomguy Helmet (No texture)", and it's on a website called Sketchfab. If you have any difficulty locating the file, let me know.
Also, I know I state it in the description above, as well as on the upload itself, but I just want to make it clear that the helmet is NOT my original model. It was created by a steam user named Half-Dead.
Good luck!
