Katrina Hitoyo is one of the main protagonists from the novel, Laria, written by Daniel Hellmund. In the story, Katrina is a carefree and cheerful soul who evidently hides a devastating secret. She possesses the knowledge of healing arts and lethal combat, being able to hold her own against any opponent. Her will-power and hopeful outlook help the main character press onward even in the darkest of times. The base figure for Katrina is Sharon Carter. I began by repainting her eyes and hair after boiling her sculpey headdress. Her sword is created from scratch using plastic packaging, a q-tip, and red plastic vinyl tape. The sleeves have also been widened using plastic vinyl. Her boots, unseen in these pictures, were painted brown. The lower part of the dress is entirely from scratch. I had previously issues using cloth for clothing. I finally settled on building clothing, such as dresses, capes, and cloaks by constructing a skeleton using wires and cloth and then overlaying the skeleton with plastic vinyl tape. I am very happy with the results for Katrina. It may not look like it, but I am very happy with how this figure turned out. Of the customized figures I have made, I believe she is my favorite. I learned a lot with her; this was the first time I boiled sculpey using the tutorials on this site, and the first time I build a skirt for a figure using plastic vinyl. A long time ago a friend of mine created some sketches of characters as she read the Laria book. I used her awesome sketch to put Katrina together, and I've included one of her sketches in the images below for you to compare. As always, it is not meant to be perfect and it is just for fun. Thank you for looking! ![]() |
