The Story:

Okay, I am a huge fan of both the Superior Spiderman story and the character, so when I saw that the Superhero Mashers line had released a figure, I had to have one. I've always been impressed with the amount of articulation these basic figures have, so you can imagine my disappointment upon discovering that the latest wave of figures lack much of the range of motion the previous waves had. My awesome new Superior had no ankle or shoulder swivels, and didn't even have the spider legs as an accessory.

I had to fix this.

I took parts from a first wave SHM Spiderman for the legs and arms, as Ock here only came with arms with non-removable webshots molded into them, and added the metal gauntlets Superior uses. I had to crack the figure to modify the shoulders, and used parts from a Magneto to add full range of motion. I sculpted the backpack, and then came the real challenge.

It's not a Superior SpiderMan without the mechanical legs, and modified two legs from a unknown tripod toy I found. Looked great! Problem is, I now needed four legs to complete the look, which with a tripod is a little difficult. I ended up making casts of one of the legs, and then modified all four legs to fit together. The legs can be separated from each other, and slid into the different ports on the figure, and can rotate even when attacked to Superior's back.

Last, but not least, the paint job on SHM figures is a little plain, which to be fair is to be expected for a children's toy. I had originally meant to color him the same shade as the original figure, but found myself falling back into my more realistic style of painting, and I have to admit, I liked the result. Surprisingly, with the right paints, these figure can look 10x better than when they started.

I'm planning to do more in this line of figures.

P.S. The price for these figures is pretty good too, only about $10-$12 depending on where you buy them.
