So, there's a lot of Daredevil fever of late with Netflix new season, and I have fallen victim myself. I was blown away with the fantastic job they did this season, but I strangely sort of missed the black costume. Don't get me wrong, I do like the upgrade. Not to mention, our hero would have bought himself a nice farm by now had he not armored himself up some, but, I still have a fondness for the simple costume. There have been quite a few customs of this particular look, some really incredible ones for that matter, so I wanted to to my best to do this look justice. I was on the fence about the arm guards or ropes, the face bloody or clean, so I decided to try all of the above. I also wanted an unmasked head, and after looking through some of the past versions, I found myself wondering why people kept giving the unmasked head glasses. After putting together a maskless melon, I discovered the reason. Because without the glasses, it just looks like any old head. So glasses it was. I sculpted the hair to look somewhat messy, as though a blind man was just wearing a mask a few minutes ago. I sculpted the glasses in three pieces and put them together on the head when dry. As for the arms, I made removable guards and removable wraps, along with alternate hands. The guards were sculpted with some fabric elastic, the ropes were layered thread, wrapped around a paint brush, glued and removed. The holster for his batons was also sculpted with elastic fabric. The batons themselves were from a fodder staff, just cut to size and painted. As for the recipe, the masked heads, torso and crotch piece were from a marvel hero showdown Silver Surfer. Sculpted the shirt, pants and bandannas. Along with some cut fabric for the back of the bandanas. Upper arms were a GI Joe lieutenant torpedo, lower arms were a 25th snake eyes and hands were from some of the newer joes. Can't remember which off hand (ha! Off hand!!) They lost their owners some time ago, so were amongst other fodder. The lower legs were from one of the newer snake eyes, upper legs, again unsure. Sculpted around the pants after lopping off gun and knife holsters and such. Whew! I think that's it. So, this ended up being quite a bit of work in the end, plus I kept returning to it an tweaking some here and there. I really wanted to capture Charlie Coxs lean yet muscular frame,so I didn't want to just use random muscle torso #24, along with the tight shirt and baggy pants. I hope this one finds its place among the brilliant customs that have come before, and I hope it does justice to one of the best portrayals of a comic book character to date. Seriously, if you haven't watched this show, I can't recommend it enough. Thanks folks. ![]() |
