The thing about being a toy customizer with a specific fandom or focus is that no matter how many versions of your favorite character you've made, you'll never be satisfied.

For me, every official Spider-Man figure released so far has been a disappointment in some way or another. That's why I got into customizing in the first place - I wanted to have *the* Spider-Man figure, that one toy that can really do whatever a [S]pider[-Man] can. I was ready to throw in the towel with my previous attempt (a combination of parts from various ToyBiz and Hasbro Spideys) but when I saw Mezco's Daredevil, Captain America, and Punisher from the One:12 Collective line, I fell in love. Now, I know they'll eventually get around to releasing Spidey in all his webbed glory... but I didn't want to wait another year, AND I wanted to make a Spidey of similar quality before Mezco could.

I had a spare ThreeA Yellow Hornet body lying around. I was halfway through turning it into a Manga Spidey when I realized that I had everything I needed to make regular ol' Peter Parker: a head (with resculpted eyes) and three pairs of hands from Pizza Spidey, as well as Walgreens Black Ant's neck. All I had to do next was learn to sew, so I did. The costume's made out of red and blue spandex, with the weblines drawn in using a very fine permanent pen. I also had to modify the neck joint and sculpt some muscles (without going overboard, which is the tricky part when you're working with fabric in this scale) on the base figure before making the costume.

I know I'll probably still buy the Mezco version when it comes out (including the variants - I better start saving up now!), but at least I have something that'll let me sleep peacefully at night until that day comes. Thanks for viewing, and I hope you liked it!

Hello! Not sure if you'll see this but I wanna make a custom suit like this. Did you do a back logo? And if so, how? Also, do you have anymore photos of this custom cause I'd love to see them! If you do please send them to me at damienalt80@gmail 🙏 I'm new to soft goods so anything helps

Thank you! I'm working on a second version of this - I'm still not completely happy with my stitching, and I need something decent to go with the Mezco Cap I preordered (until Mezco puts their official version of Spidey up for preorder).

Pretty slick dude. Cloth usually looks like crap at this scale.

Thank you very much! You're right - cloth doesn't always work well in the 1/12 scale. The Mezco guys are doing godly work, which inspired me to try a bit harder.

This is an absolutely spectacular custom! It looks like an official release by Mezco its that good! Reminds me of Spidey from the Capcom "Marvel Super Heroes" game! Do you take commissions? This is so impressive!

Thank you so much! This Spidey was inspired by Mark Bagley's '90s take on the wallcrawler - the inspiration for the Capcom games. Still thinking about taking commissions, since some folks have asked me about it, too. If my second One:12 Collective-inspired project turns out well, I might!

Amazing and refreshing! How did you manage to find stitching/thread that isn't too thick in 1:12 scale?
avatar

Saturday, February 27, 2016
Thank you! I used ordinary thread and was just very careful. I didn't want it to look like an off-scale mess, so every time I made an obvious mistake, I'd start over.

That is so Fantastic!!!!!!! I love it. Could you share what brand of pen you used? It never would have occurred to me to actually draw on the fabric!

Thanks! I used a permanent pigment ink pen. It's branded as Uni Pin, and has a 0.05 mm point.

With how expensive those figures are, how do you have extras just laying around? Lol

The second pic is my fav, those shoulders look great.

Thank you!

I got most of them from trades (the Yellow Hornet's been with me for years - split a set with some other collectors a long time ago). I tend to keep leftover parts from earlier projects, too, which leaves me with plenty to work with when I do decide what to work on.
