This figure is a representation of the Gavrila character from the novel, Sins of Laria, written by Daniel Hellmund. In the story, Gavrila is introduced as a hero who fights against the demonic horde along with a team of other Demon Slayers. Their skill and bravery soon spreads across the realm and they are hailed as heroes. Being of the Merisian race, a people who usually possess mastery over the elements, Gavrila cannot summon and manipulate plasma in fiery or lightning forms like her brethren can. She is, however, able to conjure movement in items like ropes, bandages, and barbed chains, wielding them like tentacles to do her lethal bidding. Gavrila even uses these items to climb and seemingly "float" over the ground as she fights.

Despite her talents, Gavrila is prone to obsessive and sadistic tenets. She is cruel and unforgiving to any who cross her. Her mastery over demon extermination is only matched by her need for one man's affection. Aside from being beautiful, all else seems meaningless in her eyes if she is not given love by the lone man she wants. It is her only weakness, and it is this lust that allowed for her facial injury. While battling a gang of demons, she was too caught up in protecting her desired lover to notice the beast bearing down on her. Her face is slashed apart and she is hurled into a stone fountain, left for dead. As the story progresses, her fear of being ugly tarnishes the faint valor that once existed in her soul. Her sanity and her flesh begin to decay as Gavrila slowly descends into her own hell and becomes a villain of unrivaled wickedness. She delights in torture and does the bidding of her out-of-reach lover in the hopes that some day he will overlook her scarred visage...

For this figure I used a Spider Woman from the Marvel Legends line. The head bandages were created using air-dry clay which stayed in place rather well before I painted and sealed them with mod-podge. I added additional clay to the back of the head to get the desired "wrap around" effect. The character is of a race called Merisians, and in the story these magic-wielders have blue-black hair. I tried to show this and I think it turned out ok. I dry brushed acrylic paint for the hair and then detailed the bandages to make them look stained with fresh and old blood. I am not sure how well they appear in the photos, but up close the bandages are really gross looking.

For the boots and gloves, I wanted them to stand out from the limbs, so I used clay to create the lifted boot and glove rims. I do not have a dremel as of yet, and I have a full-time job with two young ones, so I didn't sand these as I probably would have liked. I will in the future though. These turned out ok, though I couldn't get the joints as covered and painted as I would have wanted, but it still works. I used vinyl black electrical tape for her arm and leg wraps. In the future I may give her a knife sheath on her left leg where the black wrap is. The chain weapon in her hands was a necklace from a craft store. I am working on a manipulable chain that can wrap around her body and have that "possessed" look as if she is controlling it. These accessories will make it appear as if she can wield them with her thoughts alone. Those are still in process, and I can always update the photos later. I am currently unhappy with the result, so I am still working on them.

I used black fabric and the electrical tape to create her "skirt". I have very happy with how that turned out and I am looking at how to use this tape/fabric combo in he future. Again, it may not look like much in the pictures, but it really goes well with the figure.

Over all I am happy with how the figure turned out. It is the first project where I incorporated clay. It is my hope to complete more figures from the Laria book series. It is not meant to be a professional quality piece, I just had fun making a character from a novel I enjoyed. Thank you for looking!
