I used to make these to order for about 8 bucks a pop. It was way too cheap for the amount of time it took to make them, but in the end it was good sculpting practice. •Started with a scrap piece of plastic, later shields I made with scraps from sheet styrene. •Pressed a layer of Apoxie Sculpt onto the shield, then trimmed the border to shape. This one has a little battle damage, exposing the plastic underneath. •Added all the vertical detail with a blunt wedge tool, switching to a rounder head to press in the red symbol. Wanted it to look like the outline was seared/branded in. To get the grainy detail, I simply pressed a raw piece of wood against the apoxie a few times, careful not to make it look repetitive/artificial. •Basecoat and some drybrushing for the wood, copper for the base so it looks like the wood is bolted to a copper sheet. You can glue a little elastic to the back so a figure can use it, or glue an adjustable ring mechanism or loop, like they sell at craft stores, so you can wear it like jewelry. ![]() |
