Recently decided to ease off on Marvel figure collecting in favor of Transformers, and upon getting into TF collecting, I discovered that it is incredibly complicated getting classic looking G1'esque figures all in the same scale. As the more veteran TF collectors probably know, there really isn't a satisfying classics style G1 Soundwave around, with most folks opting for either the Music Label Soundwave, or other less appropriate options. After buying ML Soundwave and not really feeling him in my CHUG display, I decided to try making a custom classic Soundwave around Voyager scale. I already had an FoC Voyager Soundwave on hand, but his look also bugged me, so he became fodder for this project. I threw out trying to keep alt mode transformation in the picture, as an articulated robot mode is my priority. Shopped around and found a Mashers Soundwave for cheap, and started taking him apart to see how Mashers internals work. All it took was cracking him open and modding the crotch area and the FoC hip pins to work together, and boom, a nicely scaled classics Voyager Soundwave! Kept the wheel wells on the FoC Soundwave lower legs because I felt they added some nice bulk (wheels removed, of course). The crotch got a little scratched up when regluing the upper body together, but I'm planning to sand and repaint it later on. Repaint done on the Mashers upper body and guns, and added some silver paint to the FoC thighs and feet. Very happy with how he looks next to Hegemon, and now I have to sell off the ML Soundwave I just bought! First TF related custom done, looking forward to getting more into it in the near future. =)
