•WHAT YOU ARE LOOKING AT
This is a custom 6.5"(not including crown) deluxe action figure of King K. Rool from the Donkey Kong Country series of video games by Nintendo. King K. Rool has been my all-time favorite Nintendo villain since Donkey Kong 64 as this has been my life long dream to have a legitimate action figure of King K. Rool!

•HOW DID I MAKE THIS HAPPEN?
I know 3D Printing is a fairly new technology but I didn't relize what you could do with it. Once day I Google searched how to make action figures. After days & days of extensive research and ripping apart a few old WWE action figures I had, I figured out how the joints worked. I thought, "you know what? I know all the joints that go into an action figure, maybe I could 3D model a King K. Rool figure with articulation!" As easy as it may seem, its actually quite difficult to 3D model a character with articulated points if you've never worked with 3D modeling software before, so in short, this was a nightmare for me. I later thought I could model this guy out of Sculpey clay. Well that also didn't workout for me as I've never modeled anything out of clay before and putting it on a wire armature just wasn't cutting it for me. I wanted a King K. Rool figure like you would buy at a store as I wanted it professionally made. Well I found this 3D Printing website that is based in New York called Shapeways where you can hire freelance 3D modelers to make you a 3D model of any design and from there you upload the file on the website, select the material you wish it to be printed in, and it arrives at your door in 1-2 weeks. I spent days on end trying to find the appropriate modeler to do the job and later got an email from a professional 3D artist named MLal. I basically provided him with all of the reference images from Google of King K. Rool that I could. I even had him change a lot of things along the way on the model to make it resemble King K. Rool as much as possible. I then designed and told him all of the articulation that I wanted as well as the texture. After all of that was said & done, I paid the modeler a little over $200 for the file so I can print it via Shapeways. 3D printing this was definitely the most expensive route I could have went, but its also the most accurate and professional way if I wanted to truly make this an action figure as if I would have made this from clay myself, knowing all of the articulation and joints it has, it would have require serious precision on my part to make sure every part fits, definitely would have been a ton of trial & error. So it wasn't that I couldn't make it from clay because if I took my time, I could have probably made it happen, its just the articulation part that was unrealistic to me.

•RECEIVING THE 3D PRINTED MODEL FROM SHAPEWAYS
After receiving my 3D printed model of King K. Rool in the mail from Shapeways, it was time to do some prep work. Each piece of the action figure was sprued together as I had to cut them off and sand excess off each part. From there I primed each part three(3) times followed by three(3) coats of clear coat.

Since a lot of people are interested in buying this truly, one of a kind, King K. Rool action figure, I decided that I'm going to purchase the materials necessary to reproduce it. I'm going to be doing a silicone molding/casting process with the 3D printed parts. I'm going to mold each part of the figure separate & then use urethane plastic resin to pour into each mold to produce strong, plastic parts. I'm then going to clean up the parts followed by airbrushing each piece with K. Rools signature colors. After that I will assemble the figure and its done! But I need your help. You should be protected by free use laws, it has to do with how much money your making off of it vs. Nintendo's figure profits, but that's one of the parts, there are 4. Any customizer is typically considered small potatoes making it not worth while suing them, and making figures from more than one genre would further your protection, for it would be based on company individually. Anyway, This figure is super cool! I saw the printed pieces, he has multiple hands! Super well made, sent you an email as my business dartharmoresscustoms already, can't wait to hear back!

Just saw the video of the figure, looks cool. Only thing I would change if you have another figure sculpted is make the discs in the joints 1 or 2 millimeters smaller. This is so the paint won't get scraped off by the moving parts.

What do you mean by "disks"?

He means the swivel hinges in the shoulders. Alternatively, you can avoid resizing the disks by simply adding green dye to whatever resin you use. That way you can simply add detail with dry brushing or with a wash (paint rub isn't a problem with colored parts). Instead of making another comment I'll just say this here, this is all very interesting, I can't wait to see one of these fully casted and painted.

I feel like this shouldn't be on here until we can see the figure.

I approved this as an "Other" type of custom, I'd like to see pics of the printed fig myself though.

Totally understand about characters being trademarked, but it hasn't stopped us from making Batman and Wolverine figures and selling them for $300 on ebay. Or those fancy fan made Transformers "upgrade kits" that are straight up copies of the TF characters. Companies/IP holders are really weird about what they will and won't allow.

Anyway, glad you got your dream figure made, it's not exactly something we can all say, and most of us will be waiting forever!

I still don't understand why more people arent making fansculpts like this and selling the models through places like shapeways. $200 is pretty good to have someone model a quality action figure, you could even make your money back by selling it.

There must be some hideous reason somewhere as to why someone hasnt modelled a fully articulated Samus Aran and become a millionaire lol.

Well since the characters are owned by a specific company as they have the license to them, there could be legal issues brought up if the company were to find out, especially if someone were to make there character and sell them. I know when I tried to get this character 3D Printed from a website called Sculpteo, they wouldn't do it because Nintendo has this character trademarked. I would sell these on Shapeways but they said if they print it for me, I would have to keep it to myself and make it private on there website. I already got it printed as I'm still going to make them for anyone who is interested though as a King K. Rool figure is long overdue! I agree with $200 being a really good price! I ran into some people who wanted nearly a grand! Haha
