When Shadow fell to earth at the end of Sonic Adventure 2, his body was severely damaged. A group of scientists found the hedgehog near death and took him to their laboratory. They reconstructed his body with advanced robotics and then transplanted his brain into the new body. He awoke a few days later in an amnesiac rage and destroyed the entire facility before falling unconscious and was found a few days later by Dr. Eggman.

Shadow has a redone paint-job to the red on his body, as well as a battle damaged cybernetic left eye, which is also painted (similar to the terminator). He has also had holes drilled into each of his hands, allowing hm to hold almost any action figure weapon.
