Scratch-built Excelsior - Class starship from Star Trek. Excelsior was always my favorite starship from the series and I always wanted to try to built one by myself. The ship is made of plastic and some cardboard to strengthen the hull and some putty. The ship is 80 cm / 32 inches long. The neck is made of cca 30 wider and narrower parts, that are cut of plastic and placed in layers. This creates the studio-model look of the neck, as it is not just one part with some relief. The nacelles are made of styrene and air drying ceramic modelling clay. The pylons for the nacelles are strengthen with a metal stripe. I used the bottom of the bottle screw cap for the deflector dish and a crown cork for the bridge. The rear torpedo launchers are made of the cap of the instant adhesive tube; the middle part is made of two front parts of the clothespins, the rear part of the clothespins was used for the secondary shuttlebay on the bottom of the secondary hull. The texture and aztec pattern is printed on common paper and glued on the surface of the ship. The windows, phasers and some larger parts are painted with a Revell email color. The last picture is a compilation of the photos made during the construction. As I am a big fan of the PC game "Star Trek: Borg" and like the crew very much, I decided to name the ship USS Righteous - the ship from this game. This is the biggest model / customization I made up to now. It took me 6 months, but didn´t have time to work on it every day. ![]() |
