Just added some new pictures to really get a better look as I have a better camera now. This was a labor of love and face surgery. I think the way Bolg went in design worked very well and I couldn't wait for the figure to come out. Then it didn't. So I have seen some customs of him on the internet and people just take an Azog and sculpt on him and I think that is ok, but I really wanted it to capture bolg. I always thought a Beserker Uruk-hai would work well and I believe I was right. This figure consists of an Uruk-hai Beserker base body with Shaaku hands. For the rest I did heavy duty sculpting, staring with the head I cut off his big teeth as Bolg has less gigantic uruk fangs and re-sculpted his lower teeth with epoxy. Then I cut into his head the areas with scars and where his head bolted strap that keeps his head in tact with a sharpener blade (they always have worked for me since I was 11 and started customising back in 2006ish). I sculpted the blade armour into his torso and added another layer for the skin overlapping effect and then the blades that go up are 2 ninja turtle swords shaved down. His kilt is a beserker one but with the skirt part of plastic removed and replaced with brown material. I took the skull from a Moria corpse and re-sculpted it and the rest is sculpted by hand from epoxy. Then the boots I had to re-sculpt the feet as the sandles stuck out and were too big and then I sculpted the interlocking metal boot armour over using some Uruk-hai crossbowman shin guards as a base and sculpting over them to make the right shape and the interior of the mould is reinforced with plastic cut out shapes. The spikes were taken from the rubbish Glamdring from the fellowship Gandalf (a really bad translation of the sword improved with the Gandalf the White figure) and took the ends off cutting them into 8 spikes and sculpted the kite shape at the top of the boots under the knee to slot in and reinforced with glue. The hair was also sculpted and other details. The Bow is a Mirkwood Legolas' bow sculpted over with varnish on the blade parts. His mace/ sword was the Beserkers sword with the end cut off and re-sculpted and I added a spike on the end to kill Kili with in the photo which is a pyramid shape (yes I know he uses a different weapon in that scene, but 1 change to make it a good figure). His eyes were also varnished to add a life like quality. I took the liberty of taking some movie photos such as when he fires the bow, tries to bite Legolas, kills Kili and when he is stabbed in the head by Legolas (had a broken sword spare. I am very happy with the result, shame only 3 pics available. Interesting note I sculpted a face under the skull as both he and Azog have soulless faces on their kilts which is cool. I also took the pauldrons from the 3.75 inch Bolg and added the bear claws he comes with on his back and the lower pauldrons are from the Uruk-hai crossbowman. Oh yeah I had to reshape his nose by cutting it off and then making a new one. Thanks again. Please wait... |
