Presenting my take on the The Evil Queen from Snow White and the 7 Dwarves, another figure in my series of Disney customs. Recipe:Dale Arden from Flash Gordon, with sculpted head piece, Crown from Playmobil, fabric and craft foam. In a tower chamber in of the crumbling ruins of an ancient monastery deep within the shadows of the Haunted Forest, gazing into the shimmering misty depths of her enchanted mirror, Grimhilde the Hag kept a solitary vigil over the Realm. It was some time ago that Grimhilde had learned of the spell with which to restore her former powers and transform her back into the beautiful Queen she once was. She had spent the years since recruiting powerful allies in the forms of the Sea Witch, a vicious Pirate Captain and a former dark fairy now ferocious Dragon, and working hard collecting all the items needed to perform the spell, the Voice of One Sweet of Song, the Blood of One Fair of Face and the Tears of One Shallow of Heart. Lastly, waiting patiently until she found the perfect vessel with which to channel its magic which came in the form of the Blue Fairy Diamond. At long last her plan was coming to fruition and now she had to just wait until the right conditions when which to cast the spell. However not everything was going to plan, her Enchanted Mirror recently revealed to her that the spell she had cast on a Princess Fair of Face to make her sleep an eternal and ageless sleep, by pricking her finger on the spindle of a spinning wheel, could be broken but didn’t show how and so she had sent the Dragon to guard the Princess sleeping in a tower only to watch the fiendish creature, one of her most powerful allies, be vanquished by the sword of a valiant Prince. Grimhilde began to feel impatient and anxiously cast her reflective gaze over the rest of the Realm. The mirror showed much to her anger that her former mentor, the Sorcerer Yensid, had begun to form a brave party of people from across the Realm forming to counter her rising darkness. Among them was a former street rat, an Agraban Princess, a swashbuckling Prince and a land locked mermaid. Ursula the Sea Witch will be dealing with her soon enough, Grimhilde though, but she must crush the rest of this little alliance and she must act soon. It was then that the Enchanted Mirror shimmered and spoke to her. “The winds are high and the moon is full, it is now time Majesty, heed my call. To reclaim thy beauty and thy might, you must cast the spell this very night.” At last, thought Grimhilde, the time has come and with haste she went to the spell locked and protected chest which contained the Blue Fairy Diamond. From the folds of her sleeves she produced the key with the unlocking counter spell and eagerly clicked it into place and turned it. A thin, iridescent skin like a bubble shimmered momentarily on the surface of the chest before it spread away from the lock and dissolved into nothingness. Lifting the lid a faint light of palest blue shone from inside the chest. Outside the wind battered at the windows and howled around the tower, it was time. Firstly she produced a large obsidian basin and placed it on the altar beside the chest, she took the small glass bottle containing the Tears of One Shallow of Heart and the spindle with the blood of One who is Fair of Face dried on its sharp tip and then removing the stopper from the bottle of tears plunged the spindle into it. The liquid in the bottle instantly turned a vivid scarlet and this she poured into the basin. The next part of the spell called for her to pluck a grey hair from her head which she cast into the basin where it hissed and dissolved. Taking the shell containing the voice of One who is Sweet of Song she crushed it in her hand, the shattered shell cut into her skin thus adding her own blood to mixture, and this she sprinkled it into the basin. The voice gleamed on the surface for a moment and its haunting song was briefly heard before being swallowed by the now black liquid. For the final part of the spell The Hag reached a gnarled bony hand into the chest and withdrew a large pale blue stone, she could feel its ancient power pulsing in her bones and she grinned a wicked grin. Grimhilde took the stone over to the window and opening it, thrust her arm high into the air and called upon the elements to awaken the slumbering power within and charge her vessel. In response to her call a bolt of lightning struck the stone, and from inside a bright blue light shone like a star. Taking the diamond to the altar she placed it vertically on its bottom point inside the basin, where it balanced perfectly motionless emitting a bright glow. The liquid in the basin began to trickle upwards, what should have been a small trickle of liquid expanded upwards to coat the whole of the diamonds many facets before it was absorbed and the diamond began to glow even brighter and refract many colours, small sparks shot sporadically from it. Lifting the diamond in her hand, Grimhilde began to chant an ancient spell drawing on the powers from within the diamond vessel. The sparks began to increase in volume, the glow intensified and a mist began to swirl around the Hag. It was then that a powerful bolt of magic like lightning shot forth from the diamond striking Grimhilde in the chest and lifting her off the floor, the mist enveloping her body entirely. The mist cleared, and standing where the old Hag once stood was a statuesque regally attired woman with flashing emerald green eyes, blood reds lips and raven hair beneath and gold and jewel encrusted cowl. Grimhilde went over to the mirror and stared in awe at her reflection, touching her face, inspecting her smooth pale hands, and a gloating smile spread across her full lips. Restored of her former youthful beauty and full powers, Grimhilde would have no problems recruiting more underlings to do her bidding and make herself Queen of the whole realm. With a flick of her wrist she conjured a golden crown set with rubies and sapphires and placed it upon her head and gazing deep into the mirror she declared “Mirror mirror on the wall, I will make the Realm bow to me, I’ll hold them in thrall. I shall remind them, using all my gall, exactly why that I am the fairest, most powerful Queen of all!” ![]() |
