These two I'm lumping in together, because neither one was much work, pretty much just a little head swapping and some light paint The first is the Green Man. I ordered the head which was a custom casting by Stew. It was meant to be placed on the Hal Jordan, Abin Sur, and Sinestro bodies with removable heads, but that didn't make sense to me. While the first Green Man that served with the Omega Men had a pretty slender body type, the new Green Man that's been serving with the Green Lantern Corps is noticeably bulkier. Since the Justice League Kilowog figure is horrible and needs to be destroyed anyway, I yanked the head off of that, since his bulkier body was perfect. Then I built a neck joint for the head, painted it up, and put it all together. I didn't bother messing with the uniform on the figure, since I felt the largely black costume suited his large and intimidating stature. Tomar Dar is probably the first custom figure of any type I ever made. As an adult anyway, I made a few custom figures as a kid, but I don't think any of them were any good. Actually, I made a Bishop figure out of a Ravishing Rick Rude figure that was pretty good. Anyway... I don't know what it is about the Justice League Tomar Re figure, but it just bugs me. I don't know if it's the crazy long neck on the tiny body, or the overly cartoony appearance of the face, or what, but it just didn't sit right with me, and I like Tomar Re. I figured maybe if I put on a better looking head, that would make everything better. So I picked up a 6 inch Tomar Re figure from the movie line, which is graced with a great looking head, but a rather lacking body, and yanked the head off of that. Then I took my Justice League Tomar Re figure and cut off its head, right along the neck line. This left me with a neck that still turned, without having to crack open the body or do any real work. Gorilla Glue bonded the movie head to the Justice League neck, and as they were both molded in roughly the same color of orange plastic, they merged pretty seamlessly. Neck still turns, and it looks good. The head looks slightly up, which I don't mind at all, but if I had, that could have been easily solved by cutting the neck at a slight angle. The only other change I made was that I painted the white gloves on him, as I've always been partial to them. I like the general look of him. Later on, I made a second custom of Tomar Re where I took the whole head and neck and placed them on (ironically) a removable head Abin Sur body. Not only does the Justice League head actually look good on this body, the whole figure having the appearance of Tomar Re from his first appearance in the comics, but the slightly bulkier body somehow seems to make his long neck look natural. Though not pictured, that Tomar Re has since become my Tomar Re figure, while this spare Xudarian is now designated Tomar Dar. Tomar Dar only made a brief appearance in the Green Lantern vs. Aliens book, and at that point, there was no Green Lantern Corps, so I have a pretty large amount of lattitude in assuming what his Green Lantern uniform might look like. Works for me. As for scaling, Green Man is listed as being 6'2, 2 inches taller than Hal Jordan. In terms of the actual figures, this one nails it. Tomar Dar is a bit too obscure for measurements to exist, but measurements DO exist for Tomar Re, and they would presumably be roughly the same height. At 6'2, Tomar Dar's figure is a wee bit on the small side, although if you count his fin, he is actually tall enough, and in fact, slightly taller than the Green Man. And of course, both figures are fully posable. ![]() |
