i tried my best to include shots that would give you a feel for what went into creating this thing. it started out as a idea to create a replica of the 2012 lair for my nephew and ended up being quite an undertaking. it was first constructed out of balsa wood. i cut and assembled all of the parts to be glued into place. before that happened i took a faux stone spray paint and sprayed the backboard. i them dremeled all of the brick mortar lines out of the spray paint. this created the back wall texture. once the wood base was finished i poured liquid silicone over the top of it to create a mold. i them poured a semi rigid urethane plastic into the mold to create the honeycomb looking replica. from there i just sprayed the whole thing green and applied minwax polyshades in a couple tones to create the dirty look. the final product weighs 11 lbs in total (though it is two pieces). as mentioned it is semi rigid which means that the thicker areas in the support columns and kitchen are very solid while the thinner walls remain flexible but not so much that they lose shape. it is not perfect as you will see seem lines and minor imperfections from mistakes i made while creating the wooden original. also my inexperience with creating silicon molds has left some areas that need attention but overall i am pretty happy with this project. i have to create a second one for another nephew and when that is finished i intend to put a couple on ebay. i am well over $900 invested in this project and there is quite a bit of plastic that goes into creating this thing so when i do get around to it they won't be cheap but i think the model is a pretty solid representation of the actual lair and i think it pairs will with the pre existing Z line series of playsets that are readily available. with a little tlc all you hobbyists could turn this into something much more that i already have. the model is 41" from one side to the other.
