I started with a black series DM and removed everything except the lower half and I used the top half from ML Machine Man. The head is from the black series DM, as well as the lightsaber. The hand jutting out came from a ML Iron Fist figure (I also made some additional interchangeable hands; he has two with lightning (from ML Electro) and two with out). The rest was just a lot of painting and re-painting and some more re-painting, smh. The tattoo patterns were pretty difficult considering that almost every reference I could find of a shirtless Darth Maul all had some slight variations to the pattern. I own the Kotobukiya Darth Maul (the Japanese style one) and I also have the Sideshow Mythos statute, both have variations to the tattoos. That said, I came up with the best pattern I could. It's not perfect but I doubt that's even possible. I'm somewhat pleased with how it came out but I can foresee me making corrections for the next few days….

I added some neodymium magnets to his feet to work with a metal base. The base was made using a precut, wooden base I found at Michaels. I used a metal electrical plate for the top of the wooden base and painted it.

FYI, I found what I thought was a perfect "red" for Maul. It's Testors Model Masters "Chevy Engine Red", for anyone out there planning on making one of these.
