I was really taken by the articulated Classic Optimus Prime figure made of cardboard. I did share this on the Fwoosh last year. I haven't shared anything here. I am hoping to entice other scratch builders to share their Transformers, especially ones made of non traditional material. Mine is built out of foamboard skeleton articulated with Mr. McGroovy's box rivets making all sorts of pivot hinges. Most of the hinges are strengthened by foam washers and the friction generated by these rivets pressing against foam washers and foam skeleton. Some hold better than others. The bot's legs are the weakest. Too top heavy for my friction pivot points to hold when in action poses. Stands fine upright. Scrap booking papers, crafting foam, and paint make up the skin for dino and bot. It transforms from robot to Dino. I based the look using esthetics from Fall of Cybertron and classic G1 designs. It basically transforms like the G1 Grimlock. The torso was designed differently. It is based on 3 3/4" scale. 13.5" to top of Grimlock's head as Dino. 18.5" to top of robot mode, or it may be closer to 20". It's big. It's my first scratch build. I hope to make another Dinobot improving the articulation with things I learned and trick I may glean from here. MP Optimus looks a bit small next to him in bit mode. Looks great together in Dino mode. Thanks for looking. ![]() |
