The Blue Laser was an Irish-American police officer named Duncan Fitzpatrick. While chasing a gang of criminals throungh a chemical warehouse, he breathed in the vapors of several different toxic chemicals and went into a coma. When he woke up, Fitzpatrick had the ability to create a field of blue energy around his hands. He is able to control the intensity of the energy, which can, at full power, destroy a steel vault door in one blow and disintegrate bullets. Fitzpatrick decided to use his new powers to fight for justice without the constraints of the police force. Donning a blue costume, modifying his police-issue handgun to fire gas pellets, and calling himself the Blue Laser, Fitzpatrick set out to stop all those who break the law.
For years, I have had the idea to write a comic similar to the old Golden Age ones. This led to the creation of the Blue Laser. To make the figure, I took a very cheap WWE action figure(one of the ones with the power strike gimmick) and sanded down his face and hair. Then, using milliput, I sculpted the helmet, boots, gloves, belt and holster, and the shoulder pads. The cape came from a Superman action figure and the gun was cut from a fodder rifle. The energy effect was made with hot glue (the method I used came from a tutorial on Jin Saotome's website)and painted with Tamiya clear blue with white drybrushing. I painted the body with Vallejo sky blue, and used Polly Scale blue for the cape and shorts. The belt and gloves were painted with Model Masters tan (belt buckle was done in silver Sharpie). Shoulder pads, boots and mask were painted with silver paint coated in Tamiya clear blue. The eyes were made with Vallejo yellow and the accents on his mask were done with golden paint marker. I glued on a paper cutout for his chest symbol. For this figure, I wanted to have a comic book look, so I used dark ink to define his muscles and white paint for highlights. Thanks for looking!
