Great Scott! A Marty McFly custom 6 inch scale figure loaded with tons of accessories! Back to the Future is easily my favorite trilogy of all-time. It is a shame that they never released detailed 6 inch action figures for this franchise. I decided to make my childhood favorite movie come to life by embarking on my most ambitious project to date.

I started with the civilian Cyclops figure from the movies, which was sitting in my box of fodder for the longest time. Although the articulation was lacking, I saw the potential in the figure because of the particular casual clothes he was wearing. Then finally, I had a light-bulb moment when I figured he would make an excellent Marty McFly base.

Figure:
I removed his hat, and sculpted on the hair. I also had to sculpt the plaid shirt between the jacket and t-shirt underneath. Further, he had a belt around the waist of his jeans, which I had to sculpt over to make it look like he was wearing jeans WITHOUT a belt. Added a little button and some dots to look like stitching. Also had to add the belt straps. I added the "art in revolution button on his denim jacket, which could have been easily overlooked. The plaid shirt required darker paint for the dots and lighter paint for the lines. The jacket required two-toned paint with the lighter tone towards the bottom half. Painted the gold buttons on the jacket. Had to paint the hair and eyes. The jeans required a base paint, black-wash, and dry-brushing to give it a true denim-look. The black shoes were repainted into the iconic white Nike's. The cuffs on his rolled up jacket sleeves needed to be sculpted on and painted with pale yellow and dark green cell-shapes. The bubble vest was taken from a Charlie (Street Fighter) figure, re-cut, glued, and painted to red. Added silver paint for the buttons. Both the denim jacket and bubble vest are fully removable. I also had to sculpt his black watch onto his left-hand wrist.

Accessories:
The most fun part of this process was producing all of the wonderful accessories. The skateboard was an actual skateboard toy with a repaint of the bottom and a print out graphic on the top. I made sure to use one with yellow wheels to save me the trouble of painting them. The hover board was made from a foam board and the design was printed and glued. Added metal discs on the bottom, which were painted and glued, and serve to make the board appear as if it is actually hovering from the side angle. Had to paint the outer lining of the board with pink paint. The headphones came from Star-Lord. The back-pack came from Amazing Spiderman. The Sports Almanac is a miniature book with the print out of the cover glued on the outside of it. You can actually flip the pages like a real book. The "Save the Clock Tower" flyer was a print out but I made sure to include the hand-written note from Jennifer on the back and to fold it up leaving creases just like how Marty folded it up to put in his back pocket. The future hat that Marty's son wears was actually the same hat that came with the Cyclops base, which worked out perfectly. I had to fill in the hole with apoxie and then added a base coat of gunmetal and added watered-down layers of green and pink to make it look like the reflective prism colors. Unfortunately the hat doesn't quite fit over his head due to the sculpted hair. I also printed a miniature photograph of Marty and his siblings with his brother's head erased from existence.

This project has been by far the most intensive and most fun custom I have ever made. I definitely put in over 1.21 gigawatts of my energy into this. I am really happy with how it turned out, especially with all of the accessories I can mix and match. He also looks fairly scaled to the DeLorean that I already previously purchased, long before thinking of this idea. Now I have my very own 6 inch scale Marty McFly figure, time machine, and accessories to display and to forever bring me nostalgic joy. The future isn't set. The future is what we make of it.

The movie was remarkable insofar as it tied in so many details to make a coherent time traveling story...my attention to detail is a homage to that sentiment.
