The project “Optimus Paper M.P. Magnetized” started at the end of 2011, when I was looking at all these fabulous creations of Paper Crafters at the web, I decided to put into practice my passion and experience in design into the field of Paper Crafting. It was not easy to try to replicate the joints and poseability that you normally find in die-cast models of the original: not to mention the correct transformation styles in relation to the strength needed to make the model durable. I enjoyed accomplishing it, thinking that you my friend, like me as a child, also had the legendary Transformers as your companions in fantastic adventure! There have been many trials and numerous attempts to come up with the most effective design for the model. For example, which card is best suitable, which joints and hinges are best suited to allow substantial poseability, the type of reinforcements to be included in the empty parts, the mode of bonding and assembly of the parts, the number and type of magnets to obtain a greater fluidity and stability during and after transformation, etc... The end result is a very detailed transformable model, adequately resistant to fair wear and tear, quite stable in robot-mode and very precise in various steps of transformation. There are some very interesting details included in my design that makes the model be classified as a Masterpiece. For example, there are rotating grids in the legs, articulation on the feet, a magnetic case for the matrix, rotating headlights, a radio display embedded in the arms, dynamic pistons inserted in the elbows, in the knee and on the calves, and realistic air intakes on the head. There is also a box for led lights in the head for the light-up eyes and housing located on the left forearm, designed to accommodate the famous Spike Witwicky that will be inserted into the cockpit of the tractor vehicle in alt-mode. Materials: 120g colored card. All pins used are simple bamboo sticks of 2 and 3mm diameter. The eyes, windscreen, headlights and the "heart" of the matrix are all clear/colored plastic that may be purchased at any stationery store. Printer: laser. Software: Autocad 2006, Pepakura designer 3. ![]() |
