Akira is one of the coolest films of all time! My cousin Steve who has a sleeve tattoo of Tetsuo in giant baby mode all up his arm, showed me this movie when I was inappropriately young, and I've been in love with it ever since! I was so happy to get the McFarlane Kaneda and his bike back in the day, only to then be immensely disappointed in the fact that he couldn't even sit on his damned bike! The sculpts are so nice, but as with all McFarlane toys, the articulation stinks! Twenty years later, and a few false starts on this custom, and I finally have him the way I want him; able to sit on his bike. Started off with a ML series 3 punisher base body, then decided it was too short and squat, so I switched most of it out for a LCBH mad-man, then didn't like the proportions enough, so I switched some more of it up again a couple months ago with a Greedo. Head, jacket and weapon are taken from the McFarlane statue/in-action figure. I made him a smashed stone/concrete base out of insulation foam, because Neo Tokyo is pile of rubble by the end of the movie.

Although this post is old and your probably not active. How did you make the figure. Like how did you remove the jacket and head (etc)

Hi! I really can't remember all the details on this figure because I worked on him over the course of a couple of years and I sold him a long time ago so I can't check the details. I remember slicing the coat up the seams under his arms to get it off. It was glued, but with some carefull prying I got it off. I peeled the gun strap off his back and had to fix the damage where it connected using Green Stuff. I cut off the shoulder pads and resculpted them. I remember Dremmeling off his head and having to drill away a lot of extra plastic in order to sculpt a new attachment for the neck peg on the Greedo torso crotch and thighs I used... the arms were from a lcbh Madman... the knees down were series 3 ml punisher... that's really all I can remember dude. Hope that helps a little

Man, not much of an Anime fan, but love how this turned out. Great work on getting this guy super pose able and able to sit on the bike.

Thanks Pancho! I'm not really that much of an anime fan either, but Akira is a classic.

Heh, if I wasn't so poor I'd have bid on a lot of ebay auctions from here by now. And yeah I've read the graphic novel. It was printed in a magazine here in the UK in the 90's called Manga Mania and I had every issue. Was a huge fan of anime and manga in the 90's (when it was still 'underground' and had the adult reputation it lost when Pokemon came out).

Yeah I'm too poor to buy other peoples customs too! Get out your customizing gear and make one dude! I'm gonna make a super pose-able Tesuo soon. Y'know I totally agree with you about anime and manga being better back then, except for Blade of the Immortal. That is one Bad-Ass manga! The first volume is so-so, but from volume two up to current is unbelievably good.

Give yourself a Christmas treat and Ebay him dude! Hahaha! Crass commercialism aside though, I know you're a comic fan, so if you haven't already read it, make sure you read the graphic novels before you die. They are as good as the movie, and that's saying a lot because Akira is easily one of my favorite movies of all time!

McFarlane toys made this exactly the way it is, back in the 90's I think. Such a perfect Akira bike!

Thanks dude! I think McFarlane toys would be king of the toy industry to this day if they had just bothered to worry about pose-ability.
