Hi Realmers! I present to y'all Junkpile from X-Men 2099! He's the Secret Santa gift that I created for one of the Realm's GREATEST, Green Skin! It took about 4 months to complete this beast as I could only work on him a bit at a time. He was a definite challenge and I found myself putting everything that I've learned so far in this fun hobby into this bad boy, but it was so worth it and so much FUN! :D ^Torso & arms - From a Redakai Gold Metanoid. The chest is made out of an Overtkill III's forearm armor piece cut in half. I sculpted the signature 'collar' around his neck as well as other parts throughout his torso. I individually glued earphone cables and jewelry chains on his forearms, on his abdomen, around his neck and on his thighs to simulate the cables that run throughout his body. ^Hands - From an Overtkill III. ^Legs - From a DCUC BAF Green Lantern Stel. It was quite a challenge to 'implant' the legs unto the Metanoid hip pegs, but, luckily he holds his poses really well. ^Head - I sliced off the 'Ultron-like' face that the Metanoid figure has and implanted the face from a MOTUC Sy-Klone. Sculpted the Junkpile features around the face, his goggles and top of head. Added plastic, fabric-like pieces from my fodder bag to simulate the cloth that surrounds his head. ^Paint apps - Here's where I kept going back and forth. Do I make his armor shiny & new or go with the rusty, worn-out look? I decided to first give him a shiny, metallic-purple paint job (as can be seen in the WIP pics), but, once done, it didn't seem like Junkpile to me. I looked through youtube videos of how model painters simulate rust and worn-out metal and learned new techniques that I incorporated into Junkpile. BIG Shout-Out to OrcPainterNerd for his AWESOME 4-part tutorial: 'How to paint a weathered tank'. Let's just say that a small piece of a torn up sponge goes a long way when it comes to simulating rust effect! ;) I added so many layers of different paints on this monster that I lost count. It was a BLAST, though! :D Ultimately, he has a metallic shine, but with a certain rusty, worn-out effect that I hope simulates a metal being that's been through many battles and is made out of scrap metal. Xysma Warhorse's KICKASS Halloween Jack can be seen slashing at Junkpile in one of the pics. ;) Green Skin, I hope you enjoy my rendition of Junkpile, my brother! ^_^ Completed 11/30/14. HAPPY HOLIDAYS, Realmers. :) Thanks for checking him out! ![]() |
