I’ve been a fan of the ‘The Walking Dead’ for a while now, having picked up the comic soon after it started being published and following the T.V. series pretty thoroughly. I like the characters and wanted to try to do a few customs of them-in this case, one of Daryl Dixon.

12 inch scale is always a beast-they look great, but man, are they expensive. This is easily my most expensive custom set to build yet, costing slightly less than $100 to put together over time.

The figure itself I got here from a fellow Realmer-the body seems to be a fairly generic 12 inch figure, but the Daryl head appears to be home-made, hand-casted and painted. It actually looks pretty sweet. I’ve seen many similar heads on Ebay for the 12 inch scale, and some of them are kind of (or very) off looking in my opinion, so I feel I really scored here.

Figure features:

-28 points of movement
-Removable rubber and cloth clothing
-Custom made vest (with angel wings in back)
-Belt with pistol holster (and pistol), flashlight (and holder) and combat knife (and sheath)
-Crossbow with 4 storable/removable bolts (crossbow does manually fire the bolts as well as break down into 2 smaller pieces)

Finding a 12 inch scale motorcycle was a real pain. First of all, the motorcycle model they use in the show is not one that is produced, or readily available in a 12 scale (not to mention the bike has been customized by the in-show characters). So the first challenge was finding one close to the style, the second was finding one in a 12 inch (or 1/6) scale. This was a real pain. They do make a good handful of bikes in that scale, but they are usually die cast and because of the size, they are EXPENSIVE. Way more then I wanted to pay. After lots of different searches and keyword ideas, I found a 10 inch scale Bratz line motorcycle. It wasn’t the exact style that Daryl uses, but it was close enough that I felt I could work with it. Perfectionists would yell at me for using a smaller scale bike and a different model, but I think it fits the figure size pretty well for being a 10 inch scale instead of a 12 inch.

The bike ended up being highly modified-added the various lines at the handlebars, dremeled and sanded quite a bit, cut off the license plate, made a custom leather/saddlebag combo for the back, made a custom crossbow holder and repainted it to match the show, as well ask creating, printing and adding the correct decals to the sides.

I did work with the bike instead of against it, and it still features:

-Moving handlebars, wheels, kickstand and foot pegs
-Push button light up head lights + tail lights as well as engine revving sounds.
