-Scrooge McDuck-

This piece was a commissioned wedding gift for my best friend from his (now) wife. Obviously, he is a huge fan of Mr. McDuck. He even got married wearing a Scrooge tie, with a Scrooge pocketwatch, so when faced with the dilemma of what to get him for a gift, his fiancée asked me to make dear old uncle Scrooge himself. We decided we wanted to go for an "adventurous" tone and channel a little bit of Indiana Jones while we're at it. I came up with the idea to have him standing on a map with mountains of treasure, arrogantly flipping his lucky dime... and here it is.

Scrooge is made entirely from super sculpey from his top hat down to his duck tail (a-woo-oo!). All of the treasure is sculpey, the lucky dime is held up by wire bent to (hopefully) give the effect of it "flipping" in the air, and the base is a nice piece of cedar (full disclosure, my dad made the base as I didn't trust myself to not screw up the woodworking). Sculpting turned out to be surprisingly difficult for me on this one and took about a month to complete. Regardless, I'm very happy with the result.

The photos were taken on a cellphone at the grooms parents house after the gift opening, so my apologies if they're a little haphazard. I've also included the "concept" drawing I made which remains pretty close to the final product.

Guys, I........ Wow! Thank you! I can't say I was expecting this, but I'm certainly grateful! I must thank my buddy for getting hitched and making this possible, and thank uncle Scrooge himself for always finding the gold.

That's amazing that you sculpted this from scratch! It looks like an actual Disney made statue you'd see at a Disney store or at Disneyland.

If he has been secretly, and I haven't been borrowing them, then we're not friends anymore.

Great stuff!

Beautiful sculpting work--I just wish he had some articulation...

You should do one with moving parts!

Thank you! And I agree. Since I've moved on to scratch sculpting, I've kind of left articulation on the back burner, but it's something I've been wanting to get into and figure out cool ways to get them moving. I'm still kind of learning as I go along, and usually have big ambitions when I start (I always want to make things have a "light up" feature for some reason) and then end up having to scale it back when reality and deadlines set in. I actually asked about articulation (or to potentially make it into a bank or something- big ambitions) when planning this piece, but she asked that it just be a statue. Either way, you will see some more articulation (and maybe light up features ) in my work in the future... unless I suck at it.
