hi!

this was on exhibition at the chilean comicon for this year, i started this a long time ago but worked on it from time to time, overall it wasn't as much time as it took me to get it finished, i started on december last year and made around a third of the total work with the wood just in the last week of that month, and then finished everything a week or so before the exhibition (that was around june i think)

it's obviously based on the cover for the death of superman, i maintained the colors for the word and also the background of the first edition of the comic, the re issue had the letters changed to white with a red outline and the background with different colors too.

everything except the cape is made with wood, the cape is made with cloth and has wires on the back to keep the shape, as some kind of easter egg if the base is seen from above it has the shape of the superman symbol. everything was painted with acrylics,in these pictures there isn't much that can be seen from the background, but i painted it with an airbrush and tried to be as accurate to the source material as possible. this diorama was easy to do, and it's easy to tell but it takes a bit of time to get it done, since it's huge! you can tell by the third picture.

By luck of fate, Jon Bogdanove came to the chilean comiccon 2014 so it was a perfect time to exhibit this piece, after all he made the cover! so i had the opportunity to met him and he really liked this work i stayed talking with him and his son for like half an hour, he asked a lot of things about how i got it done, he was really interested and told me that it was an honor for him that i let him sign it!(imagine how good i felt haha) i only wanted a signature, that was enough for me, i told him that he could do whatever he wanted on the back, that i would be happy with anything, so he took his pen, and spent some good time drawing a superman for me, it was an amazing moment and also, note what he wrote, he was writing and signing on every comic that people brought to him, and usually wrote some kind of greetings and stuff like that, here he wrote "con respeto para Lorenzo" which is translated as "for Lorenzo with respect" (hence an error mixing the word in spanish and english, instead of "respeto" he wrote "respeCto" haha, i don't mind i think is more authentic this way) he then asked me to have some pictures of us together with the diorama for him to keep, and well, what can i say, incredible humble and friendly guy overall it was an amazing experience for me as an artist and now this diorama became a piece that i won't get rid of forever!

any comment is appreciated people, bye!

well I'm glad he did hehe, I'm not the biggest superman fan, but I think that was one of the best stories about a hero dying even today, and I also like the whole arc of the supermen that followed
